This morning when I was exiting work I noticed someone stole my tank bag!!! I have rode to work for more than 4 years and no one has ever messed with my bike. It just makes me sick to my stomach when you work you off to have nice things and then someone just takes it away!!! I know now that I should not have left it strapped to my bike but I just figured that no one would mess with it. I'll never make that mistake again. Any one out there have the big tank bag for an M2? I can't possibly live with out it, I guess for now that sling bag will come in handy.

I had my helmet stolen twice. Once at a concert when I fell asleep (passed out) back in the late '60s, and once while I was at work. Most people won't mess with your stuff, but there are the occasional rip-offs who'll take something just for kicks.

A couple weeks ago I left my HJC helmet on my bike (like I always do) and within a couple minutes somebody walked off with it. It sucks, I always thought bikes were kinda sacrosanct and even thieves are supposed to leave helmets alone. I was bummed because Ben Spies signed it for me (he is sponsored by HJC). Anyway I replaced it with a Shoei RF-1000 to ease the pain.

Never had anything stolen off my bike, pity the poor soul I catch trying to.

I also tend to either lock the helmet up with my cable lock, or I take it with me.

I have never heard of anyone having a tankbag stolen. That takes balls. Did they take the straps too or just the bag?

Now here's an interesting thought.. My wifes HJC was stolen recently while on a ride with a group of folks. They all parked in a 'biker friendly' restaurants parking lot in MD and as normal for this kind of place, everyone left helmets etc. with their bikes. When she came out, her yellow AC-11 and gloves were gone. Nobody else had anything taken. One of the gang had a half lid in their bags and loaned it too her for the ride home. Turns out the replacement helmet is on back order with HJC?! Anyway, she's ordered something else now, hope it comes in soon..

Some people are just true scum.. stealing form a fellow rider.. If I had found someone with that lid that day.. well.. I would have a hard time justifying my use of force.. if you know what I mean..

I know it stinks when you are ripped off, but that is what you get for having something others want. I don't condone the behavior, I just excuse it as "Living in Modern America" and make damn sure I have adequate insurance coverage. Yeah, my tank and tail bag would cover the deductible but the contents would cause my Insurance Company to go broke...If you get my drift.

Don't be too surprised if it is someone you know. People tend to forget video cameras are around! Now that would suck even more!!!

That crap happens everywhere, all the time.

"I know it stinks when you are ripped off, but that is what you get for having something others want."

What kind of idiotic logic is that? So it's our fault for working for what we want and getting it?

Mick: I hope you catch them and can get them fired. If they're willing to risk their job for a used tank bag, nail 'em.

After reviewing the video this morning it appeared to be 2 teenagers one boy and one girl. It happend around 2 in the morning and they were on foot So I assume they lived in the neighborhood. First They walked right buy it looking and then about 30 seconds later the guy walked right up and grabbed my bag. It only took him about 8 seconds to unhook it so it seems to me that they scoped it out before and they knew what they were doing. I ran the tape over to the PD and they said a Detective would get in touch with me after reviewing the tape. I hope they get the Bastards!!

Mark...Don't sweat the logic. The only inference was if you didn't have something someone else either wanted or felt the need to vandalize/destroy, you wouldn't fall into the victim category. Doesn't make any difference whether you are homeless or wealthy. Somebody always wants something of yours.

I agree with your position both now and in my youth. Have been a victim a quite a few times and know the feeling. Not much you can do about it but it helps to be insured. Can't go around ragging about it. You just need to let it go and reassess your personal security/risk.
