Hi all, My brother in law wants a Buell. I looked at a Cyclone today for him and noticed it had the recall shock with the SRP fix along with the old style muffler hanger or header mount. Being my brother in law would be the 2nd owner would Buell still replace the shock as a goodwill replacment? How about the new exhaust hanger replacment? | ||

If you go to the DOT recall website, it says right there for Buell that the customer may choose to have a new shock installed instead of SRP. If you bring that with you it would be hard for any dealer to say no, although they may resist. . . | ||

It's a lot easier if you get the go-ahead from Buell customer service. I don't have the number handy but I can get it for you Monday if you need it. From what I've been hearing, many of the Harley dealers lately are flat out refusing warranty...but I had no trouble. You just have to make the monkey dance. You didn't say what year Cyclone. Let me know and I can give you what info I have regarding recalls. I would flat-out refuse to buy it (from a dealer)unless everything was done...or unless they give an allowance for it. | ||

The bike is not from a dealer. It is a private purchase.The thing has only 2400 miles on it. The original owner did nothing to this bike. BTW, the owner wants $5500.00 OBO for this bike. I think that is way to high especially since mine went for $6500.00 brand new with a one year warranty. Plus this bike needs a new front fender. I can imagine it has the old style primary chain tensioner as well. I may offer him $3200.00 for it. These things don't go much over $3500.00 on EBAY. Thanks for the help. Mike | ||

Ah, the old Y2K M2 trick. Great bike, but needs a Tachometer and upgrade shifter as well as the other parts mentioned. The original owner must have done something to the bike if it needs a new front fender. I think the asking price is too high but your offer might be a little low. There seemed to be quite a few M2's for sale in the Great Lakes area on Cycle Trader On Line and the prices were all over the place. http://www.cycletrader.com/advancedsearch.html | ||

Crusty- My bad  Mfell- actually there's a list of recalls/service "buelletins" right here in the KV Blake- 1) It's fun to watch the needle move 2) The idea is to shift BEFORE you get into the rev limiter  and thus spoil your fun | ||

I finally got around to putting a tach on my M2 last month, after waiting only four years. One reason for putting one on is so you can estimate your speed when the speedo sensor fails. The main reason for putting the tach on is because motorcycles are SUPPOSED to have tachometers. They just don't look right without one. I've got a Banke shifter on mine, which is the best shifter that I've used, but I could survive with the stock setup. I have a friend who prefers the stock linkage over anything else, but he's got size 13 feet. I'd suggest calling Customer Service before you buy the bike, and tell them exactly what you going to do and ask if they'll warranty the shock and exhaust hanger. If they won't, keep in mind that Works shocks are around five hundred clams, and the exhaust hanger kit is right around a C- note. | ||

I had a 2000 M2, loved it and only traded it to buy a n XB12R. My tensioner failed at 12,000 miles so you could probably ride it a lot before worrying about it. I have size 13 shoes and I agree that the stock shifter is much better than the "improved design" as I had both and went back to the original design when I installed the Banke peg raiser kit. My neighbor just bought one from a BadWebber in the Chicago area for around $4000 - $4500 with very few miles on it which I thought is was a great deal, one owner , unmolested, bike, that's worth a few extra bucks in my mind. There's lots of potential in those bikes but for sure thrash the stock grips and put a pair of Buell Traction grips on it asap. Good luck!! |
