Ok, we've been languishing on HD advertising as of late...

HD sponsored the biker build-off desert confab on the Discovery channel. This time featuring a cherry red VROD (in the ad). Little bit corny. On the same level as the dinette set ad. Nice looking bike though!

Did'ya see it?

Nope, didn't see it, and apparently I won't be seeing the Buell web site anymore either since I'm not allowed to upgrade any software here. Funny, I was just looking at it yesterday or Friday. Oh well, left in the dust again.
Bye bye Buell site, it was fun.

Saw it last night (or was it the night before?). Yes it is a little bit corny. It almost makes the V-Rod appear as a "chick's bike" (which made me contemplate getting rid of my V-Rod).

1313, I read your profile- is there a picture of your s2 somewhere here on the Badweb? Just curious to see it.

Sandblast,

I posted this pic of my S2 (on the overnight stay in Lexington, KY on my way back home to East Troy for the Bringing it Home Rally around Memorial Day weekend) a while back...
S2 #1313
Still looks the same although the bags are only for touring. Current mileage is over 91,000. At 36,000 miles (1998) it dyno'd (on the Buell Motorcycle Company dyno) at 86.5 hp and 82 ft lbs torque. There's a story behind that...Kinda like Court says, maybe I will tell you someday...

1313, How'd you put S3 bags on an S2?

1313/Brankin,
If you don't mind my asking a couple of questions....
What tires are you running on your bike currently? I'm about to put a D208ZR on the S2, but am not sold on it yet.
What is the deal with the "Fourth tie bar" on your bike? Just curious.
Thanks.

Sorry for the slow response guys, got caught up with posting pics in the screensaver topic of the quickboard.

Crusty,
Towards the end of 2001, Buell started making a kit to put the S3 bags on S2's. Really the only thing that I needed was the bracket (since my turn signals are where the vents in the fairings used to be). The kit contained the bracket, bags, smaller turnsignals and hardware. It sure beats the S2 bags by a light year. The bracket once mounted to the S2 is super stiff.

Mikej,
I currently have D220's (the replacement for the D205 - old touring tire). I decided to go with the D205's years ago after I could only get about 5,000 on the D207's and with all the miles I've put on the bike I didn't want my tire dealer getting rich off me. As for the fourth tie bar on an S2, take a look under the tail section of an S2. Where the ground strap bolts to the swingarm mount block and look just above it on the frame and you will see two tabs on the frame. Erik (yes, THE Erik) once told me that it was a racing 'trick' to put a fourth tie bar there. He said it transmitted a little more vibration, but made the power delivery a little better. I was planning on washing both my bikes today, but the rain has halted those plans. Once I get around to it - hopefully tomorrow - I will take some pics and post them to show it clearer.

Hey Court,

Check out these pics...It seems stranger things have happened...
1313 on an XB
1313 on an XB 2
As for me buying an XB...The only answer I can give is the same answer I get when I ask my boss if I will be sent back to Berlin for work. It WILL happen, it is only a question of WHEN. My goal is to get 100,000 miles on my S2 (build a KILLER motor for it) and then only use it for special occasions. At that time I would need a replacement for it as my primary bike. One thing is for certain though - It won't be a Yamaha!

And people were wondering how Buell could add fuel capacity to an XB frame to give good range between stops. Is this a hint of an upcoming XB12T? All they have to do is lengthen the seat subframe, slightly change the ergonomics and add lowers and they'll have a winner! I'd buy one, and I bet a lot of other people will, too. (I'd even put up with a belt, so long as I could replace it when it snaps without having to dismantle half the bike)

Thanks. I went with the 208 on the rear, once it's scrubbed in some (only 30 miles on it so far) I'll see how well it plays with the D205 still on the front.

I'l go out to peek under the S2 at lunch and look for those tabs.

Crusty, I'm with you on the XB12T. I'd really like a Buell to build(and me to BUY)a new Sport Tourer. But I doubt that will happen.
