Don't know what an EMC is, but an ECM would be Electronic Control Module also referred to as an ECU, Electronic Control Unit or as you put it "Ignition Module."

There are two types for the X1. The Standard ECM that came with the bike and the Race ECM. With the intake and exhaust mods done to your bike you need (in my opinion) the Race model as the Standard would most likely run too lean. I would also suggest the addition of a Techlusion Digital Fuel Optimizer (DFO) and a dyno tune with exhaust analysis to further reduce any lean conditions. However, that is the way my tuner set up my X1 and many folks here will both agree and disagree concerning the need for the DFO.

As Buell discontinued the Race ECM for the X1's earlier this year, they are very rare. If the bike was running before the dealer got hold of it and it really does have the Race ECM in it, I would be highly skeptical of why it needs to be replaced. Regardless, if they do replace it, make sure it is replaced with another Race ECM and demand to have the old part returned to you. At least that way you won't be feeding the Black Market for Used Race ECM's.

Incidentally, I do not mean to imply that your dealer is a crook or even trying to mislead you. As you will see, there are many ways of addressing the issue and they may have something in mind for your bike that works for them. Just take your time and check it out.

You will find lots of excellent information both here in the Knowledge Vault and in the X1 Files concerning setting up your bike. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!

Sounds like you are having a good experience with your dealer. Very glad to hear that.

Enjoy your bike!
