My bike started running like crap, sounded like I had a really bad exhaust leak. I wasn't too far from home, so I said heck with it and limped it home. Got home and started to remove the exhaust to replace the gaskets, when I noticed this:  So I pulled the top end apart, and found my rear gasket like this:  Like the big missing chunk out of the gasket? Lesson learned, make sure you check your head bolts often!! The best part is I was looking for an "excuse" to tear into the motor to upgrade with some performance parts.  | ||

Make sure the liners are flush with the cylinder deck, this was the reason mine ate head gaskets. Bought new cylinders, pistons, rings, etc not too bad price wise. New cylinders are manufactured differently to prevent slippage of liner. | ||

According to service manual head bolts are NOT to be retorqued. | ||

Yeah, I know. I am buying new studs and bolts because the bolt that came loose, messed up the threads on the stud, so I might as well replace all of them to keep everything the same. Bolts and studs are pretty cheap anyways. |
