If it isn't a Buell spec series, I'll be upset.

What was it they told Erik about not wanting to support a spec series when he inquired about creating a CCS/FUSA Lightning type class?

Anyone know what kind of "spec series" they are considering?

here's the full quote directly from the AMA

quote:

The 2005 AMA Chevrolet Superbike Championship will include current support classes (Supersport, Formula Xtreme and Superstock) and discussions are ongoing to include a spec class at certain rounds.

They do need to fill out the schedule a bit, at Road America they had the sidecar races, which were pretty interesting.

Now, when they say spec class, are they talking bikes, or tires?

Let's say it's bikes, all on spec (Pirelli) tires, how would each manufacturer approach this?

Suzuki has the strongest position, they could do an SV650/SV1000 spec class, and use the event to qualify riders for their Suzuki Cup events. They have the cash and the ability to provide a lot of technical support/parts to the spec racers.

Aprilia would be interesting, if they come out with the 450cc RSV bike it could be a really interesting series. They could use the existing Tuono Racing bike, which comes ready to race right out of the box. The issue with Aprilia would be do they have the $$$ to pull it off and offer enough support for the series given their current situation.

Ducati could do a Monster or Supersport 1000 based class. They should have the $$$ to do it unless they spend it buying Aprilia.

BMW could add some BoxerCup rounds here to encourage more U.S. teams establish themselves here then race in the European BoxerCup series.

Harley Davidson could revive the 883 Road Racing Class, then combine the points between this new class and the Dirt Track 883 Class and revive the Grand National Championship.

Buell could do it, I don't know if they have the $$$ available to fund and support FUSA Thunderbike and a AMA Spec class at the same time, I think it would be one or the other.

If they could keep the rules similar then most FUSA teams would als be able to race the AMA series.

If they go for it they should build and sell about 50 RR version Firebolts with the Chain Drive conversion swingarm, the real Race ECM and frame slider/rear stand mounts standard and get more HD/Buell dealers into road racing.

The other thing is to forget a spec class and add a new class entirely.

1. They could bring back the 250 two strokes.

2. They could do a naked bike class, every manufacturer makes one of those.

3. For the ultimate in market driven racing, they could do a power cruiser class, that would be funny to see a bunch of Road Star Warriors, Mean Streaks, Vrods, etc laying sparks all around the track. That would fill the stands!

Now #3 would be a real hoot. I predict huge success and lots of interest if they were to do something like that. Minimum weight, 550 LBs, minimum wheelbase, 60 inches LOL. That would be great.

If it ends up being a spec bike class, anything but an American based spec bike class is gonna really irk me.

Wasn't there a support class at a few tracks made up of baggers? Goldwings and such?

I've always thought that there should be a Full Dresser class for a Mile. Can't you just see a bunch of Electra Glides and Lead Wings flying into turn one at Springfield, then tumbling and cartwheeling everywhere? Half a million dollars worth of chrome destroyed in one turn!

No, but if you did a search here you would see several instances where I have asked for just such a deal. I think it would be cool as hell, banging bags, CD players turned all the way up, etc.

If folks didnt hang around to watch that, then there is something wrong with them: D

There was a guy drag racing a bagger at the AHDRA races. When that thing went sideways off the line, God straightened it out. Nobody could have musled it straight again. It was so far out the tree was flinching. Kind of a strange, do you believe that, funny, to watch though.
