Ok I just took my X-1 into the shop to get the TPS re-set, and i got a Bad Temp sensor (rear head temp sensor) and i need to replace it. My question is, does anyone know if there is a non-harley replacement part that is availible from like an Autozone or something that would work?

Question number 2, Does anyone have a part number for a Fuel Filter replacement on my X-1? non-harley, again from like Autozone?

Thanks

As for the 1st question, I think you are out of luck and will have to go to Harley for the Temp Sensor.

For your second question, I got a chrome Pingel fuel filter. It is reusable and cost less than the Buell part (plus it looks better).

ok, anyone that can help.. i would appriciate it.
I have the ET sensor (engine Temp) and i have a couple ideas that i wanted to run by you guys. Would you take a deep well socket and cut a groove (vertically up the socket) for the wire, or just use a drill press and drill a hole through the socket for the wire?

If anyone has any preferences, or other good ideas please let me know.

I actually just used a box end wrench that I heated and bent 90 deg. Fished it down in between the rocker box cover and took it out. No sweat.

Pull the plastic cover off the sensor. Then slip a long 3/8 drive socket over the sensor running the wire out the top. Then I jam a large flat blade screwdriver in the square hole of the socket. Vice grips on the screwdriver will back out the sensor. Use the opposite procedure to tighten the new sensor in place.

i take it that you were careful not to catch the wire w/ the screw driver?

I guess then, if you were really skilled with a dremel tool with a cut off bit, or even a small die grinder, you could possibly take a deep impact socket, since they are SUPPOSED to be stronger than typical socket, and cut a notch in the side (like a O2 sensor socket) and run with it. Worst case is if you mess up you will be out say $5 at most for a high dollar Snap On socket?

since they are SUPPOSED to be stronger than typical socket,
Impact sockets aren't as strong as "regular" sockets. The steel is softer so that the repeated impacts won't cause the steel to crack and split.

I broke my sensor lead at the sensor while taking apart all of my connectors to grease them (I got 5 more hp after). I just used a combination wrench with a slight bend to get to mine.

Bluelightning, that's exactly the way I did it. But I ended up selling the XB. I'd be glad to send the split socket to anyone who can use it.

oh sure, now you tell me.. I ended up buying a socket (13mm for those that need to know) from Autozone, and used an abrasive cut-off disc on a bench grinder, carved a groove into the socket. But I ended up taking the rocker boxes off anyway, and did the screw driver-vice grip technique and it worked like a charm.. from the time i picked the tools up and put them back down (rocker boxes off and all) was about 15-20 minutes.

The bike is back together, and working great..

Now i have a new question. For those that have the X-1's w/ the Race ECM and aftermarket intake/exhaust. What Fuel milage are you getting?

I think mine dropped like a stone.

Glad to hear the screwdriver trick worked for you. When I put the race ECM (& full kit) on my S3 I noticed no difference in milage. I seem to get 45 mpg no matter how I ride.

kwel, I think it is partially cause, that tank that i just had was partially before i had the TPS re-set. so it was running poorly. we shall see what this tank-full does for me.
