I just noticed today that Buell.com has an "online profile" section that allows you to create a username/password and fill out a profile with information regarding what bikes you own, what type of riding you do, and what rides you have planned.

Has anyone noticed this before?

Anyone else think there may be a forum/chat room/bulletin board coming soon?

Yep. The profile is a H-D Corp. marketing system.

I hadn't noticed that before. I did notice that when you go to the profile setup it's in the harley-davidson.com domain not buell.com.

I like the online profile system. I use it quite a bit with my HOG membership. The only thing I can't seem to find is a link between Buell's Accessories and the Wish List.

Perhaps this feature has not yet been added to the Buell Site. If anyone discovers how to link Buell's Accessory pages to the wish list, let me know.

My Wish List is full of everything I have and will add to my Wide Glide. It is a great pictorial and financial record of what I have done and what I plan on doing.

If I were to make a suggestion, I would recommend revising the Wish List function to allow separate wish lists for each HD or BMC motorcycle a member owns. Keeping track of one HD and one BMC wouldn't be difficult but two HD's would considering the interchangeability of the parts and accessories.

there is no on-line functionality with the Buell site comparable with the HOG stuff . . . and there are no plans to do so in the foreseeable future, according to industry sources

Bomber...Interesting comment. All four sections are essentially the same as on the HOG site.

The "About Me" and "My Bike" sections are simply marketing info for HOG and/or BRAG. The "My Rides" section is HOG's ride planner. Lastly, the "H-D.com Shopping" links you to the HD site for parts, accessories and motorclothes. Only problem is they do not have a section in the year/model selector for any Buell models.

If they did add Buell's parts, accessories and motorclothes to the list on the HD website or link it back to BMC's sections for same, you could check "Add to my Wish List" and a data base is established.

Sounds simple, yet most likely not cost effective (read: not worth the expense) considering the low number of these items available for Buell owners. Makes you wonder why they linked "H-D.com Shopping" to the Buell site, eh?

outie -- yessir, it DOES sound simple, and may be so (can't tell without seeing their network, and they're likely NOT gonna let me do that!)

multiple requests for HOG-like web functionality for BRAG and Buellers has shifted from

You Bet! Next year! Promise!
to
NExt year, we hope
to
Maybe next year
to
Naw, ainlt gonna happen

ahwell . . . not my candy store, so I'm not familiar with the decision tree

Bomber...Too funny. If that is the case, I guess it makes sense with stopping where they did.

Don't care who, how, what, when, were or why they make decisions. I still like the concept of the profiles and ride planners. Just wish there was a link to the Buell stuff.

Doesn't currently make financial sense as the selection of Buell stuff is limited unless they want to set up a system that can be expanded later. Hell, the format is already there. Actually, it may make perfect sense to do it in the near future if they consider expanding the line of accessories and motorclothes and adding the common replacement parts to the site like they do for Harley's.

I support adding the common replacement parts to the shopping experience as it is a quick reference for the consumer and saves folks like DaveS from having to take the time to look up and price an ever increasing list of stuff. The additional benefit is that it would increase traffic on the site and help them slip us subliminal messages about whatever floats their boat. LOL

In DaveS case, it would make life easier as all he would have to do is quote inquiries and answer tech type questions as a picture, description, model compatibility, related item requirements, part number and MSRP are all present on the site by item.

Oh well, nuff said. Remember me? I am the guy that is still waiting for the Super SteetTracker Glynn Kerr illustrated years ago. I like to dream.

I filled out the profile last year.

Whoops...Goes to show you how much time I don't spend on the Buell website. Is pretty boring in the shopping department. LOL

When there, all I do is look for parts and accessories and the calendar of events. As CoraLee just mentioned in her recent Brew City Brag update, www.AmericanSportBike.com has a selection that is "a bit more helpful than Buell's." Truer words have never been spoken.

Really pisses me off, been a brag member for 4 years now, and there is no online brag stuff for us. can't even find brag membership pins...gotta get then at a event only. HOG members (which i now belong too as well, new FXD) can get/do all kinds of stuff. (remember the Buell web page from 4 years ago? awsome technical info about Buell design, and stuff like that...now, its just boring.)

Rockbiter1...Dumb question that I have to ask. Why did you keep your BRAG membership when HOG covers both HOG and BRAG? The only thing you don't get is Fuell, and that is available (at least for a look see) at your local dealership.

When I bought my FXDWG last year, I called BRAG and asked if both my X1 and my FXDWG would be covered on the Roadside Assistance Plan. They could not answer the question, indicated that they didn't think so and apparently were not interested in checking into it for me.

A few minutes later when I called HOG, they said YES without hesitation. Ergo, I switched right then and there.

No big deal, I still get all the info I need online and read Fuell in the Customer Lounge at Hal's every few months. Fortunately, that only takes a few minutes due to the lack of content. LOL

Wish I could add Fuell Magazine to my HOG membership for $10 a year. Isn't worth any more than that, but it would be nice to add it to my membership. Everything else would be a duplications and not worth paying for twice.

Outie -- I'll copy my Fuells for ya if you forward your Hal's emails . . . . .. .

Buell's page started to loose it's functionality, from all reports, a little before I bought my MaDeuece -- the functionality it had (again, from reports) presented no large technical challenges (or shouldn't have, with a rational design), and the features folks are asking for also are easily implemented . . . .. I think the whole thing has been placed in the "more effort than we think it's worth" category . . . . .

it's a shame that Brag, Fuell, the Buell site (which doesn't even have a jobs listing like HD's), et al are all in HDI . . . makes the job of the BRAG folks tougher, as well as meaning that any requests/suggests immediately move to the bottom of the list (numbers-wise, there's no way every BRAG member existing can compete with a HOG chapter like, oh, say, Fox Valley in Illinois (5K members or so, according tho one of their officers)

Bomber...Keep the Fuell's. I'll forward whatever emails I get. Heck, you can have my HogTale's and Enthusiast as well. Not much of interest in there either. At least not enough to make them keepers. Just a bunch of Ma 'n' Pa Kettle stories. After that it's back to the Chapter and Charity hype.

The question on why i have both memberships is simple...i just bought a new FXD, and got a national and local hog membership (whether i liked it or not, the local chapter are a bunch of stuck up jerks)

I've been a BRAG member since 2000, when i got my blast

Rockbiter1...Thanks for the explanation. I spaced the automatic enrollment thing.

National HOG is real popular around here. Chapters aren't. In fact, of the Chapter members many folks belong to multiple chapters to increase their network of riding buddies and discounts at the dealers.

Yep, all HOG tales is about is self promotion. Hype the next "cant miss" event & offer online registration at $70+ per person. Been to a couple national rallys & a few state rallys...doubt I will attend another one. Bunch of folks standing around in their Halloween costumes trying to act like bad@sses.

Oh, here is a nice one...my membership (chapter) starts July 04. Ends 31 Dec 04. I loose 6 months of membership because of thier renewal date...so i'm being robbed of $10 "value" of HOG membership, since an annual is $20

Its the little things that really you off. I need to get on my bike and ride......

Just be glad you didn't buy the bike at a "year end clearance sale." LOL

Actually, since they live religiously on a combined fiscal/calendar year, it would be a real nightmare for them to issue memberships on a rolling 12 month basis. Then again, if they wanted to do so, they could. All they would have to do is check with their Accounts Payable department. I am confident they don't pay all their bills, regardless of when they are due, on December 31st.

Just let your membership expire, then renew it on january first. Call up the club president at 6am on January first just to make your you get the full year. ; ) Then ask for a retroactive rebate of the unused portions of your membership for years past.

took a better look at the BRAG/HOG (or, rather, HOG/BRAG, in order of appearance) book I received as part of my BRAG stuff -- it's the book of maps and such, with dealer listings and milage tables and all . . . . . no differences between the needs of a HOGGER or BRAGGART in this instance, so the printing of one book for both communities makes fiscal sense
