Arnold Maryland man, 29, dies in collision of motorcycle, 2 other vehicles Witnesses say victim was traveling at high speed An Arnold man was killed Saturday afternoon when his Suzuki motorcycle collided with two other vehicles on Ritchie Highway, Anne Arundel County police said. Shortly after 3 p.m., Curtis Leon Jones Jr., 29, was traveling north with several other motorcyclists on the highway near the intersection with Cypress Creek Road. Several witnesses told police they saw the motorcycles traveling at high speeds and swerving in and out of the two traffic lanes. Police said Jones swerved across the median to avoid a car attempting to change lanes. After crossing the median, he headed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Honda Accord driven by Wayne Gruehn, also of Arnold. The collision tossed Jones over the Honda and into a Jeep Cherokee behind it. The driver of the Jeep ran over the victim before coming to a stop 300 feet from the area of impact. Jones, a resident of the 800 block of Mago Vista Road, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured. County police said investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash. | ||

Fight breaks out between driver and motorcycle club; woman gets pinned under car posted: 07-04-2004 A woman gets trapped underneath her car after an irate driver tries to mow down several people on motorcycles. It happened just after 1:30 Sunday morning at the intersection of Allen and Ford street in Shreveport. Police say Malvin Ford was driving his vehicle and got into some type of altercation with members of 2-motocycle clubs. That's when Ford started chasing the motorcycles and began driving in circles. He knocked several riders off their bikes. A woman, Bridget grimes, stopped to help her husband who was hit, but ford's spinning car hit her, trapping her underneath. A fight then broke out. Emergency crews had to be called in to lift car off the Grimes. She was taken to the hosptial and is listed in serious conditon this morning. Malvin Ford is charged with DWI, aggravated assault and attempted first-degree homicide. <my comments> It is currently believed that the Buffalo Soldiers and the South Side Ryders were the two MC involved...I have not heard anything else about this yet.... | ||

One thing I told my kid when he started riding, If you fall, drag your broken as* off the roadway as fast as possible no matter what. Not that it mattered, but the Jeep stopping 300 feet after he rode over the guy? I guess he didn't want to spill his coffee. | ||

At 60 mph & peoples reaction time being what they are, 300' isnt that far of a distance at all. Scant seconds actually. Although for the guy under the car it may feel like eternity. Is this a feel good uplifting topic or what?  | ||

Newfie_buell, Got it. When someone you have ridden with in the past dies. Dont post it. So others may learn to be or just think about being safe. I appologize for offending you. BTW High rate of speed as told by witnesses was 5 to mph over. What I was told by other witnesses that the car was merging into him not in front of him. Its still doesnt matter since hes not comming back. Thanks Chaser | ||

I say post it all, including the pictures. I hope it wakes us up, especially the Big Kid. He did something real stupid during the Friday night 4th of July traffic and got away with a little road rash and a giant bruise on his leg. I am grateful that he didn't get squashed like a bug by a pickup pulling a camper. A little reality goes a long way. They don't even show the "Horror" movies during drivers education anymore, thats why you find so many Squids left laying on the roads, they don't know about the consequences. I agree swampy, Even though the Polically correct folks want to stop the showing of violence in the learning areas, i think it is a must, cause i rememeber vividly the photos and movies from drivers ed, and especially BOATERS SAFTY! (michigan has a ton of lakes), seeing the mangled arms, legs, torsos from boat props, every time i tow a skiier, tuber what ever i am so VERY aware of what i am doing, and which way to turn. I think that they are horrible to see, but people need to see what the consequences are for Stupid mistakes. Kids now a days are (forgive me if this offends) F-ING STUPID!!! they have no idea what is right and wrong, smart or stupid, polite or impolite. I will get off my box now before i start some ranting that will never end.... | ||

As a truck driver I see stupid people doing stupid things with all types of vehicle from 2 to 18 wheels, every day so I have a very high awareness of what can happen and how quickly. It's a good job the guy didn't go head on into a fully freighted truck travelling at 60 cos it would have been quite a bit longer than 300 yards. Would have made an interesting hood ornament though. One of the nice things about driving big trucks is that as long as you don't hit a building or another truck, any accident is likely to take place below the level of your feet, which is why I drive in steel capped boots, winter & summer alike. All this brings us back to safety equipment, BOOTS GLOVES HELMET AND A GOOD JACKET ARE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. BETTER HOT THAN DEAD. Also, I haven't that many friends that I can afford to lose them stupidly, so be aware, keep that head moving, look at the front wheels it's usually the first indication of a direction change, watch what the driver is doing, and try to look at least 3 or 4 vehicles ahead to anticipate trouble, if I'm boring you, tough, you may know all this already, if that's the case consider it a gentle friendly reminder, if not well I'm glad you've learned something. The Air sports, Hang Gliding & Sky Diving in particular, have accident/fatality reports in the national organization's magazines. The idea is to learn from others mistakes, without getting hurt yourself. Seldom are pictures of the crashed shown, sometimes in air shots, seconds before impact. Falling don't hurt. Stopping really fast sure does. | ||

If I am going out on the highway for any length of time, I wear full Leathers, Alpinestar boots, helmet (obviously) and gloves. I just feel vulnerable without that stuff when I'm out among the metal herd. |
