Bomber is going to either love or hate the last pics.

X1 that was piloted by a women

This M2 definitely did not need the wheelie bar

This big ole Dodge was actually pretty impressive..ran 16.5 with those big @ssed tires.

This ugly little pile of crap had a turbocharged 4 banger & was running 10.22 at 139mph before it either broke an axle or the clutch.

One for M1, this car was running mid 15's.

Not ready to race it yet. Still getting a feel for the bike, dont need to loop it. And nope not afraid to run an 11...have already run those on my old CBR...this is definitely a 10 second bike, just gonna take some practice first.

Those who jumped headfirst into such undertakings end up screwing up.

Also need to order a tethered kill switch before I can run. Will be on the strip before the year is out.

Where exactly is the dragstrip at? And when do they run? And what is the cost to do so? And what personal gear is required? And is a kill switch teather required for bikes that won't go over 147mph? And it is a 1/4 track, right? And I assume a catch can or bottle is required on any tubes venting to air, right?

Just curious at this point.

Okay, so if I do a google search on +grove +drag +strip +wisconsin I get to:
http://www.greatlakesdragaway.com/
where I find

quote:

Great Lakes Dragaway is located 10 miles north of the Illinois/Wisconsin state line, 5 miles west of Interstate 94, Exit 337, Highway KR (Kenosha/Racine County Line) 1 mile east of US highway 45. The large red star marks the spot!
The track is located near the interstate, and there is an abundance of hotels and motels in the immediate area. Camping is also allowed on our grounds.

Looking in the FAQ I am sent to http://www.ihra.com/

Checking around for rules I find http://www.ihra.com/tech/2004rulebookrls.htm where it appears I may need an 8 quart catch can. Fairly certain that doesn't apply to street bikes.

Found some info on entry fees and spectator fees. Nothing directly about rules and clothing and safey gear. Much easier to just ask here from those who know or who have at least been there.

So I assume some sort of jacket, probably pants, boots above the ankles, gloves with fingers, a helmet with some sort of eye protection, tires with at least some tread left on them, no fluids visibly and actively leaking from the bike. If I make it down there sometime I'll probably be in jeans and chaps since I don't have proper riding pants yet. My jacket should be fine, even though it will be unattached to my pants. Boots should be good, as should my gloves and helmet. Do I need a tethered kill switch, or can I just promise to be quick with the killswitch and key? Not sure if this is like it used to be back in the 1970's which is the last time I was on a dragstip. Maybe I'll just go to the Kenosha velodrome instead.

LMAO...If it does apply, I suggest you swap liquids in your gas tank and catch can. You won't need that much fuel per run.

Mike,
If you go to www.greatlakesdragway.com, you will see on their schedule that on some Wednesday nights they have Harley nights. Next Wednesday there is one. Pretty much run what you want and have fun. If I can get my S1 together I am going to try to make it. S&S is having an employee track day (drag racing) out in Iowa on the 10th and I want to be tuned up. It is open to the public, but only S&S employees can run. There are going to be some superfast street bikes there including the VFI shootout contest bikes. Rob from Hal's built one of them and a bunch of Hal's people are coming out.

Later
Jeff

Dyna/NN/Dana/Fiery,

Great seeing you out there last night! The old junkyard dog was running pretty good (no doubt due to the trick Nallin motor mount!)....better than the rider, thats for sure. Not too bad for a little 1200 motor. Still in a tie for 1st in points believe it or not....a lot of other guys had some problems too. Will have to make up for it next week.

rules are pretty leniaint. full leathers if over 120mph, leather jacket, boots with ankle protection, boots and gloves for bikes under 120mph, chain guard required, dead man switch for bikes under 11 seconds. FYI - I have never been tech though when entering the H-D class...

Still need to get full leathers in addition to the kill switch to run the R1.

With the HD I think I could run in flip flops & bermuda shorts: D

Wes,
Did you make that strut yourself? Do you happen to know the length? I am borrowing a long arm and want to strut it, but don't have it together yet to even take a measurement.

BTW I change the S&S motor mount so that it has more material for XB heads. I couldn't get us to make one specificly for the XB conversion, but at least I have a couple for myself!
