BTW Ian, its not so much a topic about "jap" bikes..but rather about going fast. If you cant appreciate speed for what it is, I feel sorry for you.

I suppose if I had posted a similar topic only mentioning the top speed of my X1 then you would be ok with it? Are you some sort of Buell elitist who cant appreciate any & all bikes? Must suck to be so narrow minded.

1 last thing, make sure you dont go into the thread with pics from race night at the grove. There are actually a couple pics of "jap" bikes along with a few "jap" cars. Plenty of Buell pics too, but you wont care cause you will be too busy bitching about the "jap" pics.

Christ, always has to be one @ss bitching about something.

"I like any & all bike topics. Beats the hell out of war topics."

I must be mellowing in my old age. I am 100% in agreement with Dyna on this!

My top speed ( not in a jet airliner ) 206 mph, in free fall, delta track position. Radar verified, we were racing. (Normal spread stable free fall speed, street clothes, 120.)
Little speed rush, reference points were a mile away. Lots of wind noise.

On a bike? 149 calculated from tach, 85 indicated (pegged), '82 Suzuki GS1100E. ( Yoshimura exhaust, K&N, jetted )
172 must be at least 1.7 x as much rush. Watch for deer.

The terminal velocity of the R1 is know - on land. MCN U.K tested one, GPS verified, at 178mph. Suck on that speed haters. Yep the R1 is the fastest sports bike ever tested by MCN, until this week.

MV 1000 F4 just blitzed the opposition with a staggering 184.31mph out of the crate. That's not the only figure to impress.

Acceleration 0 - 160 have a guess at.

hmm 0-160, I will say 16 seconds.

The R1 will hit 0-140 in 11 seconds

Heck.. watch for big insects, they probably will even push your head back a bit at that speed.

Pray, forgive Brother Dyna and his rantings.

Most of us have moved beyond our finite Buell limitations a few years ago and since have richly enjoyed the seductress of speed. Many, many, many times.

We preached to Brother Dyna about the joys of rapid transportation, but not convinced, Brother Dyna faltered at the altar of speed and hesitated. And now, he sees the light, but alas, 170 is just so last century.

Which direction will he go when 170mph becomes routine and mundane? Back to the safe and sane bellowing of a V-Twin or step up to the plate of wanton and gluttonous and glorious speed?

Dyna I really enjoy the reporting type posts you do with lots of pics. Besides being very informative and on-the-scene up-to-date, I don't have to read about someone telling me just how good/fast their JAP BIKE is, I would think that there are sites on the net dedicated to R1's...

Had the 12S up to about 125 last week on a long straight and she was burbling along to 130 when I had to get off the gas.. For about an hour I was (in my imagination) banging on my head for not having those 150 horses of an R1 or the new MV... Then we got into the corners and being able to just throw the bike over at the last possible second and ride the torque thru the corners, I remembered what street riding was all (almost) about. Sure, I'd love to have an R1 for the occassional jaunt into the speedlimit stratosphere however for the rational and self preserving side of me simply perfers a "slower" ride.
Ride safe Dyna.
Rocket - I've seen the MV and still think the 9xx is top dog in style. That being said the MV is a piece of motorcycle worksmanship.

R1 riders are posers!

I rode my bike to the dealer earlier today to have the transmission oil changed and have new front brake pads installed (I was lazy and didn't feel like doing it myself). When they got done it had just started to sprinkle. I practically threw my credit card at them and started for home which is about 16 miles away. I was only about 4 miles from home and it started pouring rain! I got soaked from head to toe! Oh well, at least it wasn't cold.

If I am on a ride & it starts to rain..oh well no biggie..I get wet.

But I sure as hell wont leave home in the rain to go for a ride. I know some folks thrive on that crap, they can have it.

One time coming home from work it downpoured so hard I too was soaked completely, even my shoes were soggy. It was wild sitting at the stoplights in town with the rain just pissing buckets, the Harley idling away & having the people in cars stare at me. I acted as if it was a dry 90 degree day & nothing was bothering me.

Got home & wrung all my clothes out, I think I coulda filled a 5 gallon pail with all the water

Funny...I always carry a rain suit on the X1 and it only got used twice in over two years.

I never carry one on the Wide Glide and I am constantly getting caught out in the rain.

Anyone care to guess which bike is a bigger pain in the arse to detail?

Yep the HD sucks to clean, can take hours after a ride in the rain to get it even close to looking good again.

Whereas I was caught in the rain a few weeks ago while going to milwaukee for TWT on the R1. A quick wipe down with a towel that literally took me maybe 5 minutes total, was all that was needed. I really am liking this no chrome deal.

A friend of mine built a Sportster that looks like a WW2 military bike It has no chrome, and what isn't painted O.D. Green is flat black. The dirtier it gets, the better it looks. I don't think he's washed it since he built it; and the bike won a trophy in a show recently.
