I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to a post here or a link with instructions for changing the oil on my "new" S3. I've ordered a shop manual but it won't be here for another week or so. I've searched here and can find lots of references and tips, but no step-by-step instructions.

TIA,
Hugh

Hugh, look at hoses from plastic oil tank, one should go down and terminate under bike with a plastic plug/endcap---that is drain hose.Filter is messy to remove, several ways to do that.Poke holes in end of filter and let it drain,or make a plastic/cardboard funnel to direct oil flow when you undo filter.Do not overfill oil tank when done. Can't say for sure how much oil S-3 takes as I have an S-2.Take a look at this pic from knowledge vault. This is am S-1,but similar.

I use a siphon pump for a kerosene heater. With the oil warm, stick the pump in the oil tank, squeeze the pump a couple times. You'll have to have something to let the oil run into of course. It sucks all the oil out of the tank, no muss no fuss. The filter is another matter all together.

I never really had a mess to begin with.As far as the filter I used a 2 liter bottle cut both ends off, slide it up and around the filter and then just put your hand through the 2 liter bottle.Unscrew the filter pull it out and let all the oil run down the 2 liter bottle into your oil container.NO MESS!!!
