The Blast has been nice, but the XB9S and R, are just too small for me. I'm deciding between an SV650 and a Triumph Speed Four. From what I've heard, the 650 has more low-midrange torque, while the S4 has more top-end torque. I like the look and sound of the S4 better, but I think the handling might be better on the 650 for darting around town. Any opinions? | ||

SPEED FOUR SPEED FOUR!!! More power, better suspension, incredibly ugly in person (well two outta three). Seriously, the Speed Four is probably the best deal in new bikes. Not only that, but if you shop around you can find very cheap insurance. Also it handles terrifically. It's built to last (forget British stereotypes). It will embarrass better and larger twins than the 650. Whew, sorry about all that. I'm a huge fan of those bikes and, but for the displacement, would own one. I still may as a second/play bike. | ||

Speed Four! It's basically a naked TT600 with all the bugs worked out. Not quite as powerful as a Japanese 600 (R6, CBR, GSX-R), but way more fun to look at and a lot cheaper. I just read a comparo with those bikes included plus the new FZ600 but I don't remember where....I post the link if I can find it. | ||

The SV650 isn't any bigger than an XB. I'm not sure how the Speed Four compares in size. | ||

Get a Speed triple. You have the smoothness of an inline four and the torque of the v twin. Sorta the best of both worlds. Mike | ||

I agree with the Speed triple thought. Not much price difference between that & the 4, plus you get a faster & cooler sounding bike. | ||

Ditto, If you are worried about the size of a bike I wouldn't consider either of those. Might as well step it up to a big boy. Displacementwise. Speed Triple, Ducati S4R, SV1000, etc, etc... | ||

Take test rides. A twin does not feel like a four. In 1996, I test rode both a Triumph triple and a Buell S2. Both had about the same attraction for me. I fell in love with the Buell, but the Triumph felt like "just another Japanese inline four", and was a major disappointment for me. Both are good bikes, but only you can tell which feels better to you. | ||

Well I certainly like the Speed Triple better, I'm just concerned it might be too much bike for someone with 500 miles just barely hanging off their belt. Having said that, I'm 35 and safety concious. I'm also a bit concerned about losing some of that "in and around town" maneuverability if I step up to far in displacement. Any merit to that thinking? Thanks for all the input so far. | ||

Go for the used M2. The triumph will have some "karma", the SV is just another Japanese bike. Can you envision in your mind the person responsible for the SV or the S4? No? Bet you can for the M2... | ||

I like the speed four, but it doesn't have the low or mid level torque of a twin. I had a triple (tiger) and missed the twin torque curve. Heck if ya only got 500 miles under your belt I'd buy a used SV and ride it for a year or so and then take it from there. I will tell ya this I am 6 ft and 250 lbs and the xbr was not to small for me. But you couldn't go wrong with an M2 either..... that was my first Buell and it is one of the best all around bikes ever, yes I said ever! | ||

Its just an odd couple. Course the local Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki dealer is also a Polaris dealer. Another strange marriage. That $5999 Speed 4 has me thinking tho. I didnt realize the bikes could be picked up that cheap. Hell thats only what $1500 or so more than a Blast? Plus it was orange & I definitely have a thing for orange bikes. | ||

Not only are they inexpensive, but Triumph is giving away the financing on them if you need it! (Which I would if I could convince the wife it was a good complement to my XB...yeah right!) 2.9% for 48 months or 3.9% for 60! If you financed $6k at the 2.9, you'd be around $130 a month. Hmmmmmmmm...maybe I can convince her that it's HER starter bike.... | ||

Mgd- I went from the Blast to an M2, and would never even for a second consider trading it for an SV 650- dude if your going to that SV you might as well keep the Blast, and modify it and ride the hell out of it. I've never been on a Triumph, so I dont know about that. I dont mean to imply that the SV is not more powerfull than the Blast, but if your going to spend the cash... | ||

Nice. My choice was also between the speed4 and the xb9s.. There wasnt much selection of the triumph and I couldnt get a demo ride. Found a great deal for the Buell so thats where I went. |
