Best race I had with it was against a 70 Monte Carlo with the 454. The Monte put up one hell of a fight but I beat it by not quite a half car length.

Dyna, you mean to tell me you owned a 12 SECOND OLDS 98!!!!!!! thats fantastic!!

and yes the 68 is gorgeous, thank you very much, but can you really tell the difference between a 67 and a 68? 69's yes, different bird altogether (pun intended) but there are few and far between that know the 3 differences between a 67 and a 68.

M1

145 with a 3.73 rear must have been one of the trips to 8 grand? ive done 145 in my firebird, and thats got a 3.08 rear, and that was howling. ive been in a nova with 4.11s that was doing 6500 at 110.

sounds like its time for me to go get my waders on
.......

my 68 is a numbers car, with original paperwork from Cali, but its not a 10 anymore. i used to drive it a lot, but when gas started shooting up and i got my first rocket, i stopped driving it as much. then i bought my truck, and i havent had the time or money for her, so she sits in storage. its sad, i know, but i cant bring myself to sell her, i KNOW ill regret it later. i dont have any pics on file, but when i do, ill post them or send them to anyone curious.

Well, 145 indicated and I think it was just upwards of 7K. It's an FMX AOD transmission and I don't know what the gear ratio's in that are. It's a heavy transmission but it's also the one they used in trucks and 460 Lincoln's. It's very strong. It was still pulling (not REAL hard mind you) and I slowed because the tires weren't rated for that speed and there was a flat corner coming.

I kept up with a late model RX-7 around a clover leaf once. He was right up against the inside edge of the pavement (and probably losing traction because of it) and I was about 2' out at the rear with my foot stuffed in it taking up the whole lane : ). We were doing about 70. Once we got down to Hwy 62 (Minneapolis)I walked around him on the outside. Anyway... Just doin' a little bench racing.

Thanks Socoken : ). You should see people's faces across an intersection when I goose it and the intakes open up : ). The exhaust is fairly quiet though.

I've just added a larger anti-sway bar to the front and will add a small adjustable one to the rear. It has air shocks in the back that seem to work pretty well... I "think" it's the stock system but I never checked the book. I'm sure they have been replaced at least once because they are Bilstiens.

Oh, the car was originally sold in Arizona and was transported to Minnesota when it was sold to the second owner (about 16 years ago??) and where I bought it (six or seven years ago). I'm the third owner. I then towed it back to Arizona in '02. That pic was taken last summer just before I rebuilt the front suspension.

Little did I know, but both the camber AND caster are adjustable (along with the toe of course) : ). Thank you Ford.

Sure now you got me going...

I asked my Sister one year for a set of fuzzy dice for Christmas. She got me pretty much the standard size (about 4" ). I took them outside to put them in the car and the wind shield is so sloped that I could just wedge them between the dash and mirror : ).

I'll take the # 4 thank you very much. My father has a 69 satellite convertible - mint condition. Also has a breathed on 383 with the full drivetrain (4 spd) 4.65 rear end (I think) that puts out about 450 HP and revs to 7G - it was pulling 12's in the quarter mile in a roadrunner before the previous owner wrapped it around a tree... drivetrain still waiting for a home...

I agree that small blocks are better for the twisties which is why I've always had a thing for the AAR Cuda (sure - not as strong as the Mustangs of Camaro's but neet nevertheless) 340 - 6 pack. Hell, any of those top 30 would be nice!

Thanks for the clarifications on the perf info - and M1 - nothing against Ford at all, just have a penchant for the underdogs! ; )

Ken, the 454 monte sure as hell wasnt a 12 second car by any means. Like I said earlier, the older we get the faster the time slips were.

Speaking of Monte's, anyone interested in a 1980 Monte Carlo w/ factory turbocharger? I believe it's a 3.8 L V6 (akin to Buick Grand National).

(picture for reference only)
Monte Carlo turbo

It's my father's and he'd like to sell it. Located in Milwaukee. I think the turbo needs a rebuild. Email me and I'll pass your info on.

youre right, my reading comprehension sucks. in my defense, that was after a night at the bar, but i thought you said chevelle for some dumb reason, and in order to beat an LS6 chevelle, one would have had to have been in the 12's.

M1,

its funny to read about beating late model rice like that RX7, which is a fast car. what i like more than pedestrians reactions to my car, is what other people in cars do when they see it. ill be sitting at a stoplight, hood bouncing and shaking, windows rattling, and some middle aged guy next to me will peel out in his minivan. stuff like that all the time, its like my car has this sign over it, saying "peel out dude!" Kids in S10's and rangers see it and, almost as a reflex, try to spin the tires. theres something very primal about it, like just driving it around threatens the masculinity of every man in every vehicle around me, and they have to defend themselves.

i never did a lot of drag racing with my car cause its got a PG and 3.08 rear. 80 in first gear, but launching it was either tire smoke to hell, or bog down and lose. as it was, i found it to be comparable to late 80's mustang GTs. i beat a couple, a couple beat me, so thats about where my car is. geared like it is though, its just idling at 55, and 70 is great cruise RPM.

the more i think about it, the more reasons i like my Buell cause its like my car. i put some fat sticky Good Years on my car and it handle phenomenally. its loud, its got attitude, it gets attention, its great fun to drive, and it always leaves me with a SE grin that lasts for days.

I never really thought about it like that but yeah... I get that all the time too : ). All the ricers with those coffee can exhausts will ALWAYS floor their cars when they're anywhere around me : ). I love it. It keeps me laughing : ).

Same here although I do appreciate cars like late model Supras and the RX-7. I like the RX-8 too, but not as much as the 7. The S-2000 are pretty fast stock even. I certainly prefer the old muscle though.

Damn I wish I still had the F-85 though much more of a car,in the muscle department anyway.

Hey Socoken what would that made you 4 years old when that photo was taken.LOL Long time ago.

M1 the lower one (F-85) was more of a factory race car.It was a small block 4 speed car with a W-27 option 4.11 gear.It had a bench seat no radio, heat, air, power steering,or brakes. It didn't even have carpeting just a truck like rubber mat for a floor. Not even arm rests on the doors. The tranny had a scatter shield in place of the bell housing with a 90 lbs. pressure plate. The car was wicked for what it was.Took it to the Strip once,13.11 was the best she did with the 70 series tire that were on her in that picture.Well she's gone but not forgotten.

11.92 1/4 mile in my 1965 Mustang.
Not even close to stock!
Paid for the car in one summer taking rich kids with Trans Ams/Chevelles/Novas/Cudas etc money from them.

Ride to the edge!

Best I ever got on the track was a 13.13 1/4mile dogging it off the line due to wheelhop in a '67 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed 3.56 gearing with shaved heads and a mild cam. Still have the timing slip someplace. Fun car, it loved to fishtail around corners, smoked the tires through all four gears if the wheels didn't start hoppin'.

Dave that was a fast car no doubt. The F-85 was factory original except the 70 series rubber that was on her.Another cool thing about the car the battery was located in the trunk factory. With a set of slick's I maybe could of squeezed off a 1/2 second better.I really had to nurse it out of the hole.
