Went over the 900 mile marker today & decided to wind her up a bit & see what she would do. Couple quick runs up to 130 or so & everything is so smooth its scary. Then finally pushed her up to 165mph & holy crap is that ever fast. Definitely got a huge adrenaline rush out of that. Cars that are 2 miles ahead of you when you start are almost immediately right in front of you. I need to find some roads like Nebraska or S.Dakota has so I can see just what 180+mph feels like. I dont think there is any road around here where I could max the speed out.

And its wild doing a small wheelie at 70 mph, shifting into 2nd & when you hit 90 the front tire starts to come up again just from the power delivery.

The R1 is rumored to have a stellar suspension. Thrown it any curves yet?

Gotta agree with you there Dyna. I hit the low 160's on a GSXR 1100 a few years back and had a wicked moment of clarity when I got there. I heard a voice in my head say something to the effect "Do you realize that if you were to crash at this speed it would resemble an airplane crash more than anything?" The combination of adrenalin and terror was amazing............

Actually there arent a whole lot of curves right in my area. The few we have I have hit at a pretty damn good clip...for some reason I seem to be spending a lot of time going on & coming off the expressway"D...hey at least they are curves.

Thinking about going up & hitting the Kettle Moraine forest roads next weekend. The front end of this bike feels like it sticks in the corners a lot better than my X1 did.

Bill or Mike or anyone else...who's up for a ride?

Dyna, you be careful out there, you hear?

I didn't think so... : ]

Serious question: How different is the in$urance co$t from the X1 to the R1?

what i found fun on my r1 (that rhymes) is that from 55 to 100 is like 1 second (not really, but really damn quick).

so far i've kept the front end down on mine, but it's still almost hard to hang on when it accelerates to even half it's potential.

dyna, how do you keep from slammin' the jewels into the tank under heavy deceleration?

It costs me about $50 a year more.

You dont unless you have forearms the size of Popeyes to hold you back.

Me too, I have done a few small ones under power where the wheel comes up at 60-70 mph & I will let it come up maybe 6" or so. Once I get used to it then the wheelies will come, I have all the time in the world. Try to rush it & thats when bad Joo-Joo happens.

There was a kid on a Suzuki TLR1000 doing some mongo wheelies up & down sheridan rd earlier today. he was pretty damn good & was carrying the front end 2 blocks easy.

what i found fun on my r1 (that rhymes) is that from 55 to 100 is like 1 second (not really, but really damn quick).

I have found the same thing is true for 80-130 mph runs. Its almost instantly there.

And whats insane is it will go from 0-140 in under 12 seconds.

And torque? This bike has plenty of it, just have to wind her up to get there. Here's a couple comparisons

60-80 mph roll on in top gear

XB12--3.85 seconds
XB9---4.73 seconds
R1----2.69 seconds

& just for kicks get a load of this number
60-120 rollon top gear
R1---4.81 seconds..thats positively sick.

Just curious; what are the fines in Wisconsin for 100 MPH over the posted limit?

Probably go directly to jail.
Years ago I was busted doing 105mph in a 30 zone & that ticket was $460 & six points on my license. And no it wasnt on a bike, big ole Buick Electra 225.

Besides I carry this with me at all times: D

Dyna...Welcome to the "Adrenaline Club."

I don't feel the need to caution you as others appear to. You are an experienced rider and fully aware of the potential results of your actions.

On the humorous side, I am glad my X1 isn't capable of warp speed as the roads around here really suck. Had the pleasure of doing my high speed runs in the Deserts of CA and NV where you could see ahead forever.

Love to hit the twisties with you but be advised that I am really off my game this year as I have been enjoying the Wide Glide and have been preserving the X1 for its next owner.

The SuperSlab runs to Appleton and Uke's were it so far this year. So allow me a day or two's practice and I will be ready to play. Funny thing is the skills are still there, but I think my huevos shrunk. We'll see.

Additionally, let's try and do it during the week so we don't have so much traffic and radar to sweat.

I hear ya. Havent been on the HD since I got the R1, but last night I figured "what the hell" Christ its only been a week and & half & I practically had to relearn how to ride it already. Found myself taking corners way to wide, no decent low speed balance, etc.

Interesting how the design of different bikes have such an extreme effect on ride technique. Guess Blake would call that Physics and give us another lesson...Probrably with Math! LOL

Dyna...What are the recommended air pressures for the Wide Glide one-up and two-up?

Seems I filed my manual in a very safe place (?) and I question the ratings the service writer at Hal's told me over the phone. Didn't ring any bells and I think the ride is a little twitchy by merit of over inflation.

Oh yeah, and don't tell me to read the sidewall. At this age that means getting down on all fours with a very bright light, a magnifying glass and a pencil and paper so I don't forget the number when the blood rushes out of my head on the way back up. LMAO

I go with whats on the sidewall..seriously. Dont recall what it is off hand. 38-40 lbs sounds about right.

I havent really noticed a difference between 1 up or 2 up. The wideglide handles the extra weight with ease & I never even notice a pasenger back there. Now the R1 is a whole different story. Dont like passengers on it & I am most likely going to yank the peg brackets off...only 4 bolts hold everything on. Anyone wants a ride...get their own damn bike.

Just to piss on your bonfire Dyna, 165 indicated is probably close to 150 done.

Slow by R1 standards. Get that thing cranked up

I love that high speed on a rocket rush. ive done 180 (indicated) on my buddy's GSXR, and it is sort of surreal, stuff just goes by in a blur.

the SMART way to do it is to own and ride a Buell, and just have friends crazy enough to let you fulfill your sic fantasies on their crotch rockets.

I owned a '99 Suzuki Hayabusa with a MC Express turbo and all I can say, Is be careful R1. I sold mine because of speeding tickets, but what is really scary is when your doing warp speed 190+mph and get use to that speed, when riding 70mph seems super slow like you can walk faster then that speed.
What happens is you start to lose respect for that speed and get just a little too comfortable, and bad things can happen when you get comfortable at high speeds. That's the major reason why I sold the Bike I didn't have as much respect for those speeds as I should have. Now I have my eyes and heart focused on a XB12S. It will help me keep out of a whole lotta trouble.
Good Luck and Be Careful

You'd do best to set tire pressure per owner's manual, not tire sidewalls.
