I'm going to look at a 2002 X1W today, it has apparently been mainly used for track days. It has 512km on the odometer, who knows what it's really done, it looks like it's had a minor slide on one side, but generally the bike looks immaculate. It's from a dealer with a very good reputation and the price is good.
I know most of the things to look for on a Buell generally, but does anyone have any tips on what to look for to suggest it might have had a much harder life than it appears? I'm wondering if it's done a lot more miles than the odometer says and the original bodywork has just gone back on.
thanks,
g

500 km is only about 300 miles right? That is probably not accurate unless the guy really didn't ride it much. Look at footpeg mounting bolts to see if they've been removed for other rearsets. Check dash bolts too, if he was serious he took all the dash stuff off and saved it. Try to figure out how racey he had it. If stuff isn't drilled for safety wire and most everything looks like the factory tightened it, you may have a deal. If everything has been put together 3 times, you have bargining power. Old track bikes go cheap.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I got a friend to check it out. It did the 500km/300miles on the road, then was only ever used for 2 or 3 track days with all the road gear removed, which is why it's all in great condition. It's had a low speed fall on both sides, very minor damage like grazed brake m/cylinder, broken clutch lever, marks on the clutch cover. No signs of safety wire. And no signs of frame damage.
It has the race kit headers, ecu and air filter. Strangely the cams have apparently been changed to something slightly "hotter", I'll have to get details of the cams. The owner traded it for a new V-Rod.
It goes like a train, and the price is great, so it looks like I might have myself a Buell! Woohoo : )
