Anyone hear of these guys before? If If you go to the thread titled www.emachineshop.com at corner-carvers.com you will find a few pics of some stuff one of the members over there had made. It looks very nice if you ask me but I have an untrained eye.

I was thinking that I might design a pair of rear sets and have them machined.

The whole thing sounds like an excellent idea if you ask me. I'll bet a guy could build some REALLY cool custom bikes using this place. The prices seem very good too but I haven't heard of anyone trying to price something as complicated as a pair of rear sets...

Maybe a front rotor? You can choose the type of metal you would like them to use. I didn't check to see if titanium was offered.

There's no telling where the parts are actually manufactured. Prepare yourself for a pair of Bulgarian rear-sets.

Well, you can choose type of metal and you pay for it. I "think" it's an American company but I haven't checked. You download their cad software and design the part yourself. I could probably get some acquaintances of mine to run the design through Pro-E for me so I can tell if the design is structurally sound. As long as I choose a type of metal that would be a bit of overkill and make sure the part is structurally sound I can't see why it would be a bad idea. I wouldn't even be opposed to maybe just taking the stock design and making a few minor mods.

Maybe just stuff as simple as license plate re-locators just the way I want them and that sort of thing. Better brake and clutch levers? Velocity stacks (just to use a current topic : )). Exhaust mounting hardware for a custom exhaust? A machined oil cooler bracket? Machined engine mounts for custom builds? Cool forward controls for a chopper? A nifty dipstick for an XB?

I suppose I would prefer to keep it to non-critical devices as opposed to something like a pair of custom rear sets but it's possible...

The guy that posted over at corner carvers had a set of plates machined for mounting his telescope to and said he was quoted $500-$700 everywhere else he tried and he got them done through this place for $277. I would just imagine that there are a LOT of things you could have machined completely one off custom for a chopper build. I think I will when I get around to it.

I'd really like to know if I could have them machine a front rotor for me from some sort of titanium alloy.

The company contact info appears to be in NJ, but the site is vague as to who does the actual work & where. A one-off piece may be farmed out to a dude in Trenton, NJ with an ancient engine lathe in his basement, while a 10,000 pc. order in an exotic metal may well go to a Russian submarine machine shop with unobtanium blanks lying around (slightly irradiated). You may never know, but if the prices are that inexpensive, someone with cheap setup charges is choosing your bare stock. So yeah, for simple, non-critical stuff, why not?

You can do the same with just about any machine shop willing to take piece work.

They are located at 666 Gogwin Ave., Midland Park, NJ 07432. Neat idea. You design the parts with their software and send them the files. Once they receive the files, the CNC code is generated and they know exactly how long it will take to cut the part. Add the cost of the material and you have a price quote. Once the quote is okayed, the part is made and goes to UPS/FedEx for delivery.

Just completed a CNC degree at my local Community College. Computers have taken a lot of the work out of machining and made difficult jobs fairly routine. Of course you have a large investment in machinery and software, but it pays for itself if you can keep the machines working. What better way than to have the whole internet as a source of jobs. They could be an established company that has seen their customers disappear or send work offshore and are fighting back. Like I said, neat idea.

I agree that anyone can do it, but the prices here seem very low. I have looked at pics of a few pieces they have done and they look pretty good to me.

Maybe some descent fairing mounts to replace the failing ones in the Jardine Kit...
