Jerry joined us at the Portland Base Camp. One of my best friends in San Diego is named the Terminator. We were cordially welcomed to stay at his parent's compound after our blast through the Oregon mountains. Stan and Marie are the coolest people in the world. His momma hates motorcycles but they love Terminator's friends, both big and small. They didn't know Jerry from snot but he was welcomed as one of the family. Stan and Marie (the Terminator's parents) cooked steaks for us and treated us like royalty.

sacborg salute
Jerry's friend came to party with us.

terminator stout
The Terminator Stout was played so we switched to alternate forms of libation.

rampin up for woodland park
Jerry, Laurie (Mrs. Forger), Marie, Al giving the Sacborg salute, Stan, Joanne, and Zach (checking out Jerry's chandelier project in the foreground?) getting ready to blast up to Woodland Park. Notice that the late Mr. Bueller is wearing the same shirt from the night before.

I was wondering when Higgins was gonna check in with his Moss story. By the time we got to Woodland Park, I think it had grown to Sasquatch had run across the road in front of him.

Ferris,
The picture you posted above looks a lot like a WWII US half track to me... I've seen pics of 'track with the Buell stuff on before, I'd love to hear that story. WWII reenacting is somewhat of a hobby of mine.

Dino, great shot from the Estacada Bridge, but i doubt the Forger - by now absolutely FURIOUS that we'd dumped him - slowed down long enough to appreciate the view... ; )

Pdx, you're welcome x two. : )

FMJ, at the MSDR (moss! stop, drop, and roll!) incident i told you, in all sincerity, that had that happened to ME, it woulda been a huge bull moose that stepped out into the road that caused me to go down. in retrospect, i like Forger's "Sasquatch" suggestion even better. : )

Alex, you're bang on about the half track. i was across the street in my motel room when i heard SOMETHING go rumbling into Horseshoe Lake Park, and it wasn't a Buell.

it's about the coolest thing in the world to see one of THESE...
SPLASH2
go cruising by.

this is the deservedly infamous Galen...
SPLASH3
...aka Sparropie (visit the Northwest Storm Fronts sometime for an insight into this free-thinking Hooligan : ) ), and by God if he didn't wanna lob a few rounds thru this thing in the WORST possible way.

this is the view that Galen had down the barrel...
SPLASH6
...altho i assume with a little less depth of field effect. i would imagine a round from this thing tossed out into the lake would indeed make a BIG splash.

when i stopped laughing long enough at the preposterousness of cruising around thru downtown Woodland in a halftrack, i asked the owner WHY he was cruising around thru downtown Woodland in a halftrack.

"Just grabbin' a movie," came the cheerful reply.

sure enough, THIS...
SPLASH7
...was on the front seat.

Lake Bueller, this one's for you...
SPLASH8

it was, as one might imagine, a pretty cool way to kick off the SPLASH party, and the two guys in the halftrack were as buzzed to see all the bikes as WE were to see the halftrack.

Alex, if you're of a mind to contact these guys their website is longviewmx.com, altho, sadly, there is NOTHING on the site mentioning the fact that they restore old WWII vehicles.

anyway...

...SPLASH 2003 - let the games begin. : )

ps to Forger:

cool pic! that's my friend Jeremy Ricker on the left, the first Buell owner i ever hooked up with, way back in early '96. Court Canfield turned me on to him, and me 'n Jeremy ended up riding together (he had a red S2 at the time) from the NW to Cali for the first Blue Groove.

we've ridden together a million miles since, altho these days he's bikeless, as he offed his entire fleet (including a bitchin' Bimota) to put himself thru computer college in Klamath Falls. he DROVE up all the way up to Portland, just to hang with the SPLASH gang, knowing he wouldn't be riding, but still wanting to get the event on him.

he's a great friend, and it rocks that you posted that pic - thanks! (hmmmm, note that he has TWO SacBORG salutes going on...)

btw, Stan and Marie ARE the most gracious folks, and it was very cool of them to take me in -- much appreciated.

oh, and the Sturgis shirt? well, that was day eight on the road, and i was well into "clothes conservation mode" by this point. : )

Most excellent triumphant observation. I can't wait to share this with her tonight. I'm sure she's gonna want her third graders to see Mrs. Reiner in action.

I bet she'll even want to jump in on the upcoming Oktoberfast festivities just to have a word with you.

Ferris,
Not to highjack your thread, but...
This is 'Abigail', which resides in front of the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg, PA. Boalsburg is where Memorial Day was founded, and they have an awesome parade every spring to remember our vets. This year is the first time in 7 years I've missed it...

This is a 'Track at Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA, from last winter's Battle of the Bulge reenactment.

A few of my Buell buddies, who are also WWII reenactors... On the left is Mike (amazing_nobody), next is my best friend, Brian (stingaroo), who got me into this whole Buell thing, Big Mac (hopefully to own a Buell sometime soon), and myself on the right.

This pic was taken at the Reading Airshow in Reading, PA about 5 years ago. Shooting a flame thrower was an awesome experience, I had one hell of a suntan after that...

The Dragon and His Tail, the last flying B-24 in the world. I'm decked in a recreation of my grandpa's uniform. He was in the 15th Army Air Corp, and was station in North Africa, Sicily and Germany. He was a cryptogropther.

Myself and the Dixie Darlin', with a Ma Deuce. Those guns are awesome to shoot, especially with incindeary rounds...

Brians' pop bought this last year around Thanksgiving, the jockey shift/ foot clutch make it very interesting to ride.

um, can i say, "Ruh Roh"? i KNEW i could...

Alex, VERY cool pix! i am always amazed to learn the depth and variety of what we all do for entertainment and inner peace, when we're not riding, that is.

and, i'm beginning to think a Ma Deuce and a flamethrower mounted on the deck here at the ThunderDome would make a GREAT addition to the place -- it would save the expense of installing a moat and stocking it with crocs, and it just might be fun scaring the bejeebers outta the swarms of touristas as they invade the lake like they did this past weekend.

(and besides, i need something to give me a fighting chance against Mrs. F when next we meet...) : (

Alex,
The MaDuece is fun to shoot, especially if the government's paying. Trying carrying it and a belt of ammo for more than a couple miles. You start dreaming about m60s.... and a nice seat in a UH1H

Great pics by the way, My Dad did basic in Indiantown Gap way back in 43.

Ferris, awesome pics, makes me wish I'd bought the Buell 5 years before I did
