Define "essential liberty." I'm guessing ol' Ben wasn't talking 'bout playing your music real loud after 11 p.m. or runnin' race pipes on your street bike. Just a thought.

Well Dino, If you'll read a little bit of the writings put out by our "fore-fathers"...ol' Ben, TJ, et al, essential liberties pretty much means for example that you should be able to play your music real loud after 11 p.m. or run race pipes on your bike...until those liberties start infringing on my liberties...like sleeping soundly after 11 p.m....and please don't reply with something pedantic about what's infringement and what isn't...you're a grown up and you know in your heart what's right and what's wrong.

"...until those liberties start infringing on my liberties..."

Yep.

"you know in your heart what's right and what's wrong."

That's what my mommy use to say...usually when she expected me to identify right and wrong the same way she did.

Hope that wasn't too pedantic or anything.

Oh man... Corn bread and chili sound WONDERFUL right now...

I suppose it might be because I have not had anything to eat all day though.

Hey...wait a minute...don't i have a right to be just as pedantic as I wanna be? (Caveat...as long as I don't infringe on the rights of others.)

Blake,
Not everything relates to terrorism. So-called "zero-tolerance" policing grew out of the "broken windows" theory - check here
have a safe long weekend everybody.
Peace

Interesting article David. Thanks.

I agree that police who take an active roll in the community they patrol are hugely more effective. Simply a civil version of the military's "winning the hearts and minds" strategy. So if they start targeting otherwise upstanding members of the community in a zero tolerance agenda, it could have negative effects.
