Once again, I wasted my money calling BCS AKA Harley to see if I could get my leaking rear shock replaced for the $100 goodwill. "No" is the answer, they were surprised to hear that anyone had received a goodwill on a shock. I have been asking about this since 2001. BCS has a record of multiple dealers calling about the shock and several other concerns which were also either denied or ignored. It's interesting that they seem to have no record of any calls from me. I would really like to know how other people have received support, but I get blown off. Maybe I should have my attorney address the safety of ALL the original recall shocks - he's currently in the process of kicking Ford's on a safety issue now so HD should be an easy target. Class action anyone?
Buell - a great product with a lousy support network (excepting BadWeb, of course)

Something I found both interesting and disturbing.....

I called to see if it was too late to register for the "Bringin it Home" event. Things at work are looking soft enough for me to attend 2 1/2 days. I called the Buell "hotline" to register. The guy at the other end tells me "I'm not sure if you can still register. Please hold a minute". I wait about 30 seconds and he comes back on the phone. Next I get "What's your BRAG number?". I give him my current and paid BRAG number. "Please hold again". I wait about 2-3 minutes. Guy comes back on the line with "I'm sorry. But you can register on-site". I say thank you and hang up.

My question is: why did they need my BRAG number? You're either accepting registrations or your not. Now I'm not a conspiracy theory kind of guy. But I think its strange that they need my BRAG number before telling me I can't register.

Just one more example of how BRAG has gone down the tubes since Leslie left

Shouldn't it be free if it was recalled?

not trying to stir the pot, but most recall notices are for a specific period of time . . .

still, it sounds like somethings odd with Annoy's situation -- I got my shock replaced for free by a dealer that was not, shall we say, Buell enthusiastic in 2001 on the first try . . . .came in with printouts of the notices and instructions and all, and they went along easily . . . .

I'd try it again, as folks have been known to get different answers from different reps

When my shock was leaking, Buell customer service went above and beyond for me, inspite of a local dealer cluster&^$% of epic proportions. The dealer could not have done a worse job for me, over a period of months, and a Buell customer support rep fixed it all completely within 15 minutes of my first phone call.

Now that was in 2001, on a bike that was less then 2 years old with less then 5k miles, and a TOTALLY baked shock.

What year is your bike Anony? How many miles? Not trying to kick a person when they are down, and thats a painfully expensive shock, but at some point, Buell has a right to stop replacing shocks.

Any other data? Can you give your local dealer without compromising your identity? Do you have any history with the company? Sounds like you might based on the thread title...

Somebody throw out a name of the old Buell CS reps. They are still there and you need to ask for them by name to get any sane Buell responses.

I don't know how to say this politely. I've called the same BCS number and spoken to different folks about the same thing and gotten completely different answers and levels of enthusiasm and cooperation. There are some people in need of training at BCS. This should not detract from those who have been doing a wonderful job.

Anony;
I had my shock done under goodwill by Uke's, in addition to the muffler hanger AND a brand new muffler (Damaged by the mount failure) at no charge...get this...on a USED BIKE I bought from them. Before you give up, try calling a few other dealers. There are those who go above and beyond.

I disagree. It had GONE prior to Leslie's coming from Ohio. I have never, to this day, received a Fuell magazine. I have them mailed from dealers.

The Buell Customer Service thing sounds in conflict with what I know to be fact. If you want to e-mail me ( court@canfield.net ) the VIN, dealer name, model, etc. I will help.

You are light years beyond the period of the "goodwill" campaign and it'd be tough to make the case that you were aware of the Buell shock recall 4 years ago when it happened.

If you need help on the "high road", I'm there for you. If you want to have an attorney threaten HD/Buell for your lack of punctuality, please waste your own time and money, not mine.

A local dealer replaced the recalled shock on my 2000 M2,after it started leaking. They did the goodwill thing,if I remember correctly I was told each dealer is given so much GOODWILL money each year to use.Its up to them to decide WHO will benefit from the goodwill money,at least thats the story I remember being told by the Service Manager.Good luck, keep trying other dealers, surely one in your area will help you out,but I did buy my bike from the dealer who goodwilled the shock.

I feel like I was totally screwed by a dealer in Columbus, Georgia on replacing the leaking SRP on my 2000 M2. The bike was 14 months old, but I had taken it in earlier with signs that shock was just beginning to leak. Because I waited for the shock to totally blow out, they charged me $100 as an administration fee. They also did not update the exhaust hanger as I requested, I'm still using the the old one. To make matters worse, a friend with a 2000 X1 took his bike to Dothan, Alabama and got an updated shock, updated exhaust hanger, and his bike detailed for FREE - NO CHARGE.

Buell customer service was totally useless on this matter, and I felt screwed by them too. If you're ever in Columbus, Georgia, stay away from the Harley dealership - drive the extra 100 miles to Dothan, Alabama, or Marietta, Georgia. It'll be worth the effort.
