hi everyone!as you all know i
rode an xb9 w/ a race kit.fell in love with it,but now i dont know what i want.i need help here from everyone.i start thinking maybe a ducati or a thriumph daytona 995i or a suzuki sv or possibly a yamaha fj1100 would be a better choice? if i bought a buell it would have to be
a xb9r,because i can't afford a 12.if i got
anything different it would be used.i dont know
guys, all i know is every day i keep come'in back
to this site to check out the latest topics.
i know the buell would be a great bike.buell
owners are a great group of people.if you were
in my shoes what would you do?i got a dealer
who has a 04 xb9r that i could probably get it
for 9700 otd.your opinions are appreciated.

Buell's competition when I was in the market were Ducatti 916's and Honda RC51's.

I bought the 12R and I think I made the right choice. I took my old 750 for a spin today before giving her to a friend. She almost has the power of my 12R but nowhere NEAR the torque.

I would hit the gas on the Honda and start to look down to see if there was something wrong and about then I'd think "Oh, yeah, we're going... just... well, we're going now anyway."

Torque rules.

Jwz7, have you checked Chosa's in Mesa. They gave me a great deal on a new 12R. $9700 for a new 9R, might as well buy the 12.

My first Buell was a Blast, and I had one. I outgrew that and I wanted something bigger. I was tempted to look at other bikes but I was hooked on Buell and I knew I wouldn't settle for anything less than an XB.

Why should you get a Buell over any other bike? Hell, reading these threads here, knowing what type of people own a Buell, there are too many examples to list of why you should own a Buell over anything else. Whatever decision you make, you need to make it. Don't let someone else make it for you. It sounds like you've already made your decision though. Now you just need to shop around and find a good deal. Call Chosa's up and talk to them. There might be people that might not like them, but they treated me extremely well and give me an awesome deal.

The Daytona is a sweet bike & you can pick em up for a lot less than $9700. A et of undertail pipes & that triple sounds fantastic.

BTW, $9700 for an XB9 is ridiculous.

If you like the Ducati you have to at least look at the Monster series. I was drawn to Buell instead because of the larger availability of dealerships. I also like the fact that it is an American bike assembled in my home state. I personally think the Buell is less maintnance with a belt drive and air cooled, there is much less that can go wrong then on water cooled chain bikes.

There are still new '02 Ducati 900SSie's to be had for well under your $10K marker and they're air cooled twins with nice torque. I like the chain drive bit. There are still many '03 1000DS bikes out there to be had for under $10K and the 1000DS is the basis for all the retro bikes. Rock solid reliable with good power and more torque than the 900 series and really easy to squeeze a few sleeping ponies from.

An '04 955i or Daytona is too exciting to even think about! Jeez are those bikes beautiful! Parts availability, hmmm???

Yamaha FJ? Can you say Sport Touring Paradise! I know a few guys that moved to them and it's rave reviews for 2-up touring.

Find a ride and decide what fits your needs and desires. Excellent choices all.

Thanks for thinking about American workers.

Not to discount the simplicity aspect of the air cooled Buell - I've never heard of water cooled (or for that matter either) being problematic. It's nice to think that there is less to go wrong, but isn't it non-issue these days. A simple matter of taste...

jwz7, only YOU can answer your question. you must ride the bikes that are presently calling your name, and then base your decision on what each has to whisper to you on the test ride.

take a LONG test ride on each, not just down the street and back. if a dealer (Buell, Triumph, Duc or otherwise) won't let you do this, screw 'em.

Ducati? how could you go possibly go wrong?

Triumph? i'd own a Speed Triple or a Daytona in a heartbeat.

FJ? this bike must be certainly be approaching cult status, and deservedly so.

there are truly very few BAD motorcycles out there, and to be a prospective buyer at a time like this is a wonderful thing.

Buells? well, peruse this site and you'll know all you need to know, about the bikes, about the people, and about the mindset. i can tell you this: if i had the scratch i'd own an XB (make mine a big-block Lightning in black, please) in a heartbeat, too.

you asked, several people have taken the time to answer, and now you are obligated to keep us posted as to what you buy, Buell or otherwise.

and even if it IS otherwise, i hope you'll still consider BADWEB a cool, friendly place to hang out and be in love with motorcycles.

happy hunting.

Jw why buy 1 new bike when you could buy 2 used & have twice the fun & half the depreciation.
Ever tried a Speed Triple? I was torn between that & the M2, the Buell won due to the maintenance issues, belt drive, carb not injection, air cooling etc, but the Triumph is a sweet ride (hmm have to see if I can pick up a cheap one for next year)
