Did a track day today in the "slow class" with TL1000R, SV1000, 2 other late model jap V-Twins, a Ducati 996 or 999 and others.
Was very surprised that the XB12 did not get left behind on the straight. From the press I really thought our XB12's were slow, but in the real world on a tight track it's not true from what I see, they're all about the same, until you take handling into account. I was the only Buell there and it didn't get overtaken by any bike but I will admit that I have had to work hard to keep up with BMW's on two different occasions chasing them downhill on tight roads, one of them was a 650 two-up.

you had trouble keeping up with a 650 thumper BMW gettin' it 2up ?! I put a few hundred miles on one of those a couple years ago... It was fun, but I was not impressed in any other way. But, put the right guy on any bike and you can be made to feel slow. I was on an XB12 lappin' two folks at once to the outside in turn 9 (LVMS) when Chris Peris passed me to the outside on an 883 Sportster he was playing around on. I was hanggin' in there with a VTR1000 a couple Ducs, and even a litre Yami ! Again, rider ability dictates most lap times in a world full of excellent machines.

Itoo have had surprising experiences with B.M.W. s. One was as mentioned a 650 one up with what must have been a very capable rider. On roads with bends that kept speeds below 100 ,Icould not catch him. But he topped out at about 100 and when the roads became more flowing I could out run him. T he other B.M. was a different story an 1150 G.S. Ridden by an ex club man racer who is now in his late 50,s. I dont know if you have any experience of Irish road racers these guys dont race on closed circuits they need something more exciting to stir their blood. I had no chance the guy was using me for traction in the tight bends. I have since become friends with this man and have learned more riding with him in the last year than ever before.

I had a day with BMW as they let us thrash their machines for a day with the police here. I have to admit I was so impressed with the 650 that I couldn't believe it. What a fine handling machine. I was totally blown away by how easy it cornered.

That Beemer 650 two up Opto was chasing.
I chase that same bike and rider most weeks.
The rider puts it down to the great suspension.
Our Buells dont like the rough roads much the beemer doesn't care.
I also add in his thirty odd years of experience.
He never seems to brake much if at all on down hills.
I dont try to keep up when he hits it hard on that bike or his CBR900 Fireblade.
I would be pushing outside my safety envelope.
