Over the past couple of months I have noticed that when I change into 2nd and really hammer it the bike seems to jump. It only last for a second and the it's ok. It almost acts like it choking on fuel but I know that is not the case. Today as I was pulling out of McDonalds I shifted into second and everything seemed to be fine and then it stalled? I though maybe it slipped into neutral, so just as I started to pull in the clutch to reassure the shift it came into it. I know having the old linkage on my bike does not help the matter. What do you think? If I just replaced the shifter with the 02 style would it help. Or do you think the damage is alrady done? It does not do this on a consistent basis but seems to be happening more than it did 3mos ago. | ||

It's your 2nd gear dogs, mine were the same. The bad news is you have to replace the pair, forget which other gear engages with 2nd, you can pretty easily see it from the manual. The good news is you have a cartridge transmission, so you can do the whole job with hand tools and patience if you are so inclined. You don't (like on many bikes) have to split the cases. Probably under $150 in parts all said and done. Lots of information about this in the knowledge vault, including my experience doing this. | ||
