Ok, here's a story for ya.. I just had to tell it.. the wife agrees..

The other day I was off work and the weather was cooperating so I went for a spin. Ended up in the mountains of WV, and started to make my way home when on a four laner I come up on a Sheriffs car doing about 40mph in a 45 zone. I'm in the left, pass it nice and calmly and notice this cop is on his cell, oh well.. Then I see a sign telling me I need to turn right if I'm going to get home, so I hit the blinker, check the road and change lanes. Make my turn and as I'm winding up this little hill look in my mirrors and lo and behold.. flashing blue lights!

Of course, I pull close to the shoulder (now that we're on a two lane road) to let him pass.. does he? No.. of course not.. Damn, I can't believe this guy is pulling me over, I ran through the last two miles in my head.. nope, no sudden moves, no speeding, no hanging off (at all).. nice leisurely riding..

I pull over and shut it down. Then I take off gloves and lid and keeping my hands on top of the helmet wait for the nice officer to approach me.
"Afternoon sir, do you know why I pulled you over?"
"No Deputy, I'm afraid I don't." I'm polite, and just as professional as he is..

He points to my rear tire and says.. "You don't have a muffler on this machine.."

I almost fall of the bike trying not to laugh.. I point out the nice Factory race can under the engine and he's freaked. Boy, did he blow a ticket stop.. Over the next twenty minutes he and I stand there by the road, talking about this new fangled invention.. He'd never heard of Buell before and didn't even know such a thing existed. I explained as best I could and he checked the bike over and asked if it was as fast as it looked. I told him the truth, not as fast a IL4 liter bike.

Finally after explaining about the whole concept of exceptional handling he asks if I'd 'SHOW HIM WHAT I MEAN'... Now that was an invitation to get a ticket if I ever heard one. I decline and he insists.. Says all I have to do is follow him, he'll take care of any traffic. I explain that I'm leaving his jurisdiction in a very short distance but thank you any way and he insists again.

Ok, how many times can a man refuse an offer to run roads with a police escort?!?

We take off.. For what it's worth.. That cop could drive! Before long we're doing like 65mph on a road posted at 45. No problem for me, but I am having to make harder turns to keep up with him as he slides his wheels a little and makes turns.. At 75 I'm thinking it's time to bail.. and in a moment of total hooligan stupidity I roll it on and pass him.. Dive into another turn and keep the bitch screaming! My brain kicks back in and says.. brilliant as***le.. NOW he can ticket you easily.. I'm doing about 90 when I see my turn and the sign saying goodbye to this county.. I pull over just over the line, figuring I'll avoid the 'flight' charges and just take my ticket.. I'm gonna shoot myself for being such a sucker. He pulls up next to me and with a huge grin tells me he's heading to his Harley dealer to get himself one! Says thanks and NEVER travel his county like that again...

I travel all the way home with a grin and a close eye on keeping it within 5 miles of the posted.. Damn.. Has anything like that happened to anyone else?

Later,

When the CHP got their new Saleen Mustangs back in 88/89 I was dragracing my 71 510 when 2 of the officers cruised up. We were in a closed off section of the freshly built 52 freeway in San Diego. Was told I either dragged him or he ran us all in for illegal street racing. He won...

I got let off with a "Nice turn" after power-sliding my truck around the outside of a Porsche 911 (he wasn't trying REAL hard obviously).

Nothing like that though : ).

When my dad got his new T-bird Super Coupe we had a DPS (our CHP in Az) guy pull up at a car wash and ask how fast we'd had it. Duh, obviously lied.

Then he asked again, "No, really." This car "Cruised" comfortably at 120. We then divulged that the car was much more impressive from 60-120 than 0-60 and he smiled. Said he wanted one... My only cool story of that nature.

Yuppers - Buells and the police!
I got pulled over right in front of my place for passing within 25 ft. of an intersection and loudness on my black Blast, and the interesting part was he was a HD riding police officer! Well you guys have seen my bike but I kept answering the officers questions as he kept muttering and shaking his head, while walking around the bike. 15 minutes of this and I was nervous. He shook his head a final time, had me sign and tore it off, handed it to me and rode off. I was cited twice for loud noise, which counted as 1 citation, the other charge was never written. A ten dollar fixit - I was so proud! The first loudness ticket on a Blast!S@#t happens and Buells Rule!

Back in 79 I raced a local lawman who wanted to see if his new squad car could keep up with my Z28. He was very disappointed but cool. I saw a CHP motorcop race against a Harley on a L.A. freeway once. The CHPie was ahead but I didn't see the end result.

In 85 I took my new Corvette out one nite to a good spot for a bit of speed and as I was about to open up two cars pulled up to the light behind me weaving.
"Kids about to race I thought and I'm stuck with bad shoulders for a long way". Duh! I'm in a 150 mph car and if they are racing I'll see their headlights jump. Lights jumped like they came up off the ground. So I stayed ahead. Each time the leader got a bit closer I tapped the gas and jump up 10 mph on him. A number of times. To about 130 mph. Found a nice safe spot to pull over hit my signal & did so. He pulled in behind me & turned on his red light.
OOOOPS! CHP Mustang High Performance and He knew exactly how bad I had him. It was the double nickel era so now he really had me & he was toasted for being played with. He liked my car & my story so he wrote me up for only 70 so he didn't have to arrest & tow.
Some years later I witnessed two Sheriff's Deputys run one of the then new Ford Crown Vic police specials against a Chevy Caprice police special on a long bit of deserted desert highway.
At one point the Chevy was so far ahead the driver couldn't see the Fords headlights but the Ford passed him a few miles later with about a 20 mph advantage.
The Chevys were called Scuds for their quickness.
The law enforcement types are people too.

My initial thoughts, HA HA!

Then I think crap! Now I have to look forward to getting pulled over next time I drive thru po-dunk Rockford (home town - but I don't brag about it) for a burned out headlight (one of their favorite tactics for pulling me over in the cage to check to see if they can also rack up a no insurance offense).

I got pulled by the police in sleepy Cambridge England just over 20 years ago, they were driving a bog stock ford escort 1300, I was driving my first American vehicle, an ex-military 318 powered Dodge D100 pickup, a couple of their colleagues had seen me around in it & they just wanted to have a look, they the asked me to give it a bootfull at the next red light. I obliged with a nice smoky burnout and left them sitting in their tin can laughing their heads off, as we were only 300 yards from the cop-shop.
The funniest thing was that after that I never got pulled again in all the time I had that truck and regularly got a wave from the law.

I was driving home from Chicago while on leave about 8 months after I enlisted. I was in uniform because I had to go straight back to work ( I didnt manage my time wisely). I got pulled over by a state trooper near Springfield for doing about 90. He asked what my hurry was and I told him I was home on leave and had to get back to work (I didnt lie!). He said that he'd radio ahead, but I was on my own once I hit Missouri.

I rolled on at 90 the rest of the way with no problems.

I figure I've used up all my 'grace' with cops for the next couple of years with that one stop. Probably next time, I'll get pulled for 3 miles over, and they'll find enough wrong with me and mine to send me up the river.. LOL...

But this, this story is one that I'm going to have to remember for decades.. after all, it's not like it'll ever happen again.. hehehehehe.. although I'd love for it to happen again.. and again.. and again..

Maybe we can petition the IACP for special status on Buells.. You can only pull us over to ask us to demonstrate how well it handles at speed... hehehehehehe..

Later..

My brother is a traffic cop in England. Years ago he finished a night shift ,and then went home to sleep , he couldn't get to sleep so he went for a ride on his bike .

After a few miles he got spotted doing 75 in a 40 limit, the cops ran his plate and recognized his name however they thought he was on duty and assumed the bike was stolen, so they set off in pursuit , because they were chasing a 'stolen' vehicle they had to call into their central controller and inform them. Of course as soon as he saw the blue lights he pulled over. Unfortunately unlike the normal occasions when a cop pulls over another, they couldn't let him off because they had called it in - so he was stuffed and got written up for the speeding.

The worse thing for him is that he always wanted to be a bike cop and after he got caught speeding they wouldn't accept him onto the course.

My buddy Al and myself had just got our 88" motors back in our bikes and running pretty well...So we thought we would go out and do some roll ons. 4-5 roll ons in diff gears...all till about top speed...pull off on the next...and up comes these lights...I have no idea where he came from...boy did he give us the lectures...maybe because we were in full leathers...or because I was going to Bible Study...or that Al was going to his great aunts house for her birthday...I don't know...but he let us off...I thought I was going to die....

I think my leathers were soaked from head to toe form sitting there with no wind and the fear of having to go to jail in all leather:-)

My friends and I were on our way to New Orleans from atlanta. We left out at dusk and planned to run all the way through stopping only for gas. It rained and we had to go slowly for a while. Then as we approached Mississippi the rain broke and it was about 11pm. Being in the lead, I brought the pace up to about 110mph. We were rocking it for over hundred and twenty miles before the blue lights came on. The group was nice enough stop with me. We were a motley crew with a nice array of street fighters. After several minutes of walking around the bike and nodding he broke into a story about his BSA he was working on... we knew we were going to be alright. He let us go... but, we did not an escort.

My father and uncle are both retired state cops and let me tell you, cops love to drive fast. You're right, Unibear, cops are people too. They're just people who can get away with hauling all the time! Lucky bastards. I would love to be a cop, just to be able to drive how I want and ticket the crappy drivers that I see. My father used to pull people over for "impeding the flow of traffic". Where we lived, there were a lot of tourists who would come drive along the main road, looking at the turning leaves in the fall. They'd go 35 in a 45 that was actually good for 55 or 60. I loved sitting in the car with him when he did that. (It was an unmarked.) Most of them were old codgers...

That's rough, getting a ticket in a Saturn. I have gotten two tickets in my life, one in an '87 Ford Festiva, one in a '79 Ford Fiesta. Both for speeding. I understand your pain...
