ain't that the truth, everybody waves when its below freezing in january, it's a weird "i'm not the only freak" comraderie'. the funniest part is there's usually someone to wave at here in the colder states due to the unwillingness to go too long without riding. hoohoo! |

No prob One way.
That was taken when we were doing the demo rides at T.W.O. this past March.
We couldn'd do more than 40, hence the wave to S2Pengy.

I wave at EVERYONE on a bike too- and I probably should'nt, but sometimes if I wave at a harley guy and he looks right at me and does'nt wave back my middle finger spasms (maybe I have Terrets (sp.)syndrome.
A lot of times if I'm up in the twisties I catch myself waving at sports cars- there are a lot of Vet's and etc. around here. They usually wave back. |

I ride the same way to work everyday, and pass the same bikers headed the opposite direction everyday.
Some HD guys only wave back if I'm on my HD, if I'm on the XB they ignore me.
Some metric riders only wave back if I'm on the XB, if I'm on the Harley, they ignore me.
Guys on Vespas just look at me funny.
You think they would figure out I'm the same guy every morning who just rotates bikes (same jacket and helmet ya know). Screw all those stuck up non-waving wankers! I don't wave much anymore whilst commuting.
Oh yeah, I've NEVER seen a guy with apes wave back! |

I own the two most waving vehicles in the world. A motorcycle and my Jeep Wrangler. Jeep guys are much better about the wave, very rarely do I not get a wave back. Problem is I find myself waving to Jeeps while on my bike. |

i originally gave a low peace sign off the end of the handlebars...
but when i was riding in england i noticed they flashed their headlights, and since the peace sign can be misunderstood as "f--k off", i just flashed my lights...
then when i got to ireland i found that they give an odd tilt of the head, and since flashing the lights is a signal to pass, i just gave the odd tilt...
now that i'm back, an odd tilt just gets ignored, so i'm back to the low peace sign... |

Yes, lets not forget about the JEEP Wave! When I drive my wifes JEEP Liberty NOBODY waves, but when I used to drive my sisters JEEP Wrangler everybody in a JEEP waved. Whats up with that? I think cause since only gurls drive JEEP Libertys they think I am an ugly gurl. |

It's called the Jeep wave, but it's mostly a Wrangler thing. I think that is mostly because people who drive "other" Jeep vehicles just don't know about the whole wave thing so they have never really been included in "the club". I found these at www.jeepwave.com They are the nice version of the rules
Jeepin' Wave Rules
These rules are an attempt to make it easier to facilitate the mandatory wave when coming in contact with another vehicle of the Jeep nature. Though there are several variations of the waving rules, the following were designed as an easy to remember guideline for when to wave and who should wave first.
Rule 1:
If you are a driver or passenger in a Jeep vehicle, and you come in contact with another occupied Jeep vehicle you should wave. If the vehicle is not occupied, the wave is optional.
Rule 2:
Be the first to wave. Don't wait, just wave.
Rule 3:
Be forgiving. Sometimes the occupants of the Jeep receiving the wave are not paying attention, distracted, or are paying attention to driving. We all know how you can get lost in the euphoria of driving a Jeep and forget about the outside world.
Rule 4:
Wave vigourously. When cruising at 55mph towards a vehicle going 55mph it is sometimes difficult to see the 'over the steering wheel' wave. Get that hand out and make it seen!
Rule 5:
When you are the recipient of a wave, return the wave.
Rule 6:
Sometimes Jeep owners forget they are not in their Jeep and wave by habit. When occupants of non-Jeep vehicles wave, returning the wave is optional, but usually a good idea.

The reason for the nod in Ireland & the flash in UK is cos we ride on the other side of the road & you don't want to wave with your throttle hand now do you?
Here in France the wave is very much in favour but a nod is equally acceptable.
The other thing here is the foot wave, done with the right foot to say thanks when people pull over a bit to let you by, a normal state of affairs in this part of the world. I also wave a couple of finger without taking my hand off the bars, if the feet are busy.
Flashing in these parts usually is to warn you about something, like a jam round the next bend or a radar or the cops etc.
I get a lot of waves from Bikes when I'm driving my 68 Dodge pickup too.
Whatever you do, it costs nothing to be polite and friendly, stay shiny side up.  |

Crusty with my admittedly limited linguistic skills, do you mean mono-digital as in 1 finger or nono-digital as in 9 fingers?

was out in the Holy Hill area last weekend with some buds, and guy pulled off to the side of the road to let us by just before a particularly entertaining section . . . .. .took me minute to figure out what he was doing (a fairly rare occurance in these parts), so I gave him a big thumbs up as I passed him (I don't THINK thumbs up means anything negative anywhere . . . . . .) |
