First off, I miss my Buell! My shoulder is much better. I am becoming more independant every day.
My strength is coming back. I even played wheelchair basketball today. The Shepard Center is great! I look forward to learning to drive with hand controls. Looks like I'll be home in June. I still have a lot of healing and adjusting to do but I am making a lot of progress. Thank you all for your support!

That's great, Ted! Keep the spirits up, and there's nothing you can't do. If there's anything we can do to help you out or just make life more pleasant in general, don't hesitate to ask. You can reach me personally at the e-mail in my profile.

Is the Shephard Center the rehabilitation facility you're in?

I'm really looking forward to seeing you in September!

Ted,

Great news ... keep the attitude dude! My brother and sister had polio when they were in grade school (iron lung, tracheotomy etc.). They share your optimism and are doing excellent today.

Well, I only offered moral support so far but just keep going bro. An uncle of mine (of sorts) is paraplegic and has this huge Ford truck (Like a 12" lift or better) that he climbs in and out of and drives w/ hand controls. Massive upper body strength. I assure you, I wouldn't even attempt to tangle with him : ). His chair has four-wheel independent suspension... Go figure. I went shooting with him a couple weeks ago and he taught me how to fire a semi-auto AK just right so you get a fully auto but controlled effect from it. I got to fire an actual CAR-15 as well. I only wish I had brought my Benelli with as it's another one of those very fun toys. Tends to hurt a good deal more than the others though : ).

Have you considered a new vocation yet? Computer programming pays well and is reasonably simple to do if you are a logical thinker. I would imagine you could find a place that would let you work from home once you get some experience as well.

Ted; glad to hear they keep "pushing" you. That's what will make the difference. Keep up the good spirit and keep us posted.

If you can, pop in here more often and tell us a bit about what's going on, what you've been up to etc. We'd really like to keep track of how you're doing.

I'll echo others - is there anything we can do for you? Anything you need? let's know.

Great to hear from you and especially that you are making progress in the battle for healing. Have you had that chair up on two wheels yet?

Ted-

In case you get the motorsports itch and 2 wheels isn't looking doable, lemme know. I used to race karts in the same club as Wayne Rainey and Eddie Lawson. Wayne has a very nice all hand control setup on his 250cc 2-stroke twin road racer. Last time I saw it he was still using handlebars on a 4 wheeled vehicle!

Moral of the story: I can probably get some good info for you...

I just got medical records from helicopter life flight; "...found a male that apparently crashed his motorcycle over a 20-30ft rock cliff, he was found conscious, entrapped between large rocks, he reportedly was wearing full protective clothing.."

OUCH, no wonder I still hurt!...and I thought Buells could fly?!

I guess they can... Once

(sorry for the tasteless clip art... couldn't resist)

Do you remember any of it? My Dad was in a pretty serious accident in his S10 a few years back, and he can't remember anything from several hours before, nor a day or so after. The normal "wake up in the ER very confused" scenario...

And no mention of Bubba in the report? : )

"Ouch", indeed. But, pay attention to that last line - "full protective clothing".

You're a lucky man, Ted. Live life to it's fullest and make us all proud!

I remember the accident, I didn't want to pass out
because I had trouble breathing. Both lungs were collapsed. It felt like drowning. I think Bubba was busy hitting on the EMT girls...hehehe.

"Full protective clothing"
Good for you Ted. And I'm glad they put it into the report - that could make a difference at some point.
