Damn this bike is fun. After buying the ZX I remember coming back to this site and reading how happy everyone was with their bikes (despite what several mag reports said), so I was upstairs dreaming of Buells with a rocket in the garage. I bought Kip Woodring's book on Buell/Sportster Hop Up, and continued to dream. I'm glad I sold the ZX and did the M2L move.
I'm still in my first week with her, am amazed at the light weight, the handling, the brakes, and the engine is major entertainment. Moreover, the seat is nice, the riding position is comfy, and the sound is magic. I guess all of you have been through this.
I even rode her in the rain a little today. She sure cools down fast if you go into a store for any length of time.
Do X1 Lightnings come on the cam at 3k ish?

I feel like I'm 20 all over again, and I like it!

Yeah, the M2 is a great bike. I bought a S3 two years ago with and I was going to sell the M2. Two years later and I still love the bike, can't get myself to get rid of it.

The deference in the cams is that the M2 will have more punch down low but it will run out of breath on top. The cams in the S3 and X1's give up a little torque down low but more than make up for it on top.

M2s are a great "all around" bike!
Welcome to Buell and back to Badweb!

Mine has X1 cams/MikuniHSR42/race ignition/stainless Buell slip on. I'm GUESSING that it's roughly equivalent to a stock X1/S3? I've never ridden one so don't know. I still have to use a manual choke, which the fi bikes get away from.
Was debating on the S3T, but I can sit flatfooted on the M2L so it's a good intro to Buelldom for me.

I think that the Mikuni gives up nothing in performance or ease of use to an FI.

The FI advantage may become noticeable when changing altitudes.

Do stock X1/S3's seem to "come on the cam" about 3k? There is a marked difference between the idle-2500 range, compared to the 3k-7k range on this bike. John thinks the cams were the SE spec X1 cams, but can't find the receipt.
The plugs look great, light gray. She starts immediately cold with choke, warm with no choke it feels like the first piston to hit TDC she's goin', barely hear the starter. Then rumph. I should say RUMPHH!
It's raining the next few days so I'll change oil and do suspension adjustments, then clean her up.
This whole Buell experience is way too much fun.

Boatz - I've had my M2L for for almost two years and I love it. They really are wonderful bikes as I'm sure you are finding out.

Boatz-
The stock X1/S3 cam is basically the same as the Andrews N4 grind. Go to their website for complete specs. Yeah, they kick in later than the stock grind (about 3K) and pull like a Clydesdale through about 6500. The Mikuni is head and shoulders above the CV40 in throttle response, even though the dyno charts don't show it. (See Aaron's post in the knowledge vault with dyno charts). I doubt you'll regret the purchase. Buell=fun!

I'm also new to buelling with recent acquisition of a 99 M2. Performance is great and handling is confidence inspiring related to my riding skills. (Have owned 3 cruisers in the past) I like the look of the tail/seat of the S1. Does anyone know if it will fit on my M2?

A S1 tail will not fit without mods to the frame. A 98 or older M2 tail is similar to the S1 tail and will bolt right on.
