Okay, I'll admit I'm not all that knowledgeable about motorcycles. I picked up a copy of June 2004 Cycle World, wanted to read a few things, try to learn a little. They have an article about a custom bike, using a V-max, built by Luovic Lazareth. Any way he uses ideas from other bikes, parts, etc.. Brakes from Buell. My opinion, good ideas, ugly bike.

Okay, here's the main thing I wanted to share, Moto Morini V-Twin. "} "

Moto Morini V-Twin

Think this could be something to slap in a Buell in the future? Possibilities for race competition for Buell? I still have a lot to learn. Professional insight from anyone please? Need to learn something here. Wonder if they could make one compact enough for a Blast?

Well, as usual, I'm still waiting for my copy of Cycle World to show up. The Moto Morini V-twin looks pretty cool. I stumbled across their older bikes on the net a while back. They made smaller air-cooled V-twins (350-500 cc) back in the 70's and early 80's IIRC. One source said that Harley Davidson seriously looked at buying them out back in the 80's so that they would have a line of smaller v-twin bikes. Evidently M-M went out of business in the 80's and a group is presently trying to re-start the company. It would be pretty cool if a Buell/Moto Morini hybrid turned up.

MM did built some killer scoots -- performance was good, if not great, and their reliability was a little better than the Italian standard level . . .

however, I would be seriously leery of getting too involved with this, or any Italian company these days . .. . to depend on them being there in 18 months to supply parts is a chancy proposition, at best . . .. even great companies with outstanding histories (Guzzi, for instance) have a habit of appearing and disappearing rapidly, with ownership changing almost as often as the Italian Government

all that said, HD DID have a great relationship (or at least a mutually beneficial one) with Aermachi (sp?), the folks that made the Sprints (great short track bikes!) and, I believe, a couple of thier dirt bike (less sure of that data 's been a while)

I could have sworn I typed quotes from the article about the motor. Oh well, when I get back to the house I'll sit down and give you some info on it. I caught a quick look at some of the older bikes. One of the things they mentioned in the article is that they are make sure they can support this before getting it out there, evidently they're still doing a lot of testing. The man behind the Moto Morini V-Twin has been away from it for about 15 years and he's back into it now. I'll try to get that info on here in an hour or so.

Quotes from Cycle World on Moto Morini V-Twin “ Franco Lambertini, after a 15 year hiatus, is back with Moto Morini and is hard at work on another V-Twin to be developed in four displacements ranging from 650 to more than 1000cc. …………… According to Lambertini, the new engine is ultra-compact, and features a unique monolithic crankcase inclusive of the cylinders. The case is open on the left side and both the gearbox and crank assembly are introduced through it, cassette-style. The cylinder barrels are interchangeable to make displacement selection easy. Lambertini came up with two bore and two stroke measurements, combining them to obtain the four displacements. The 87-degree Vee-angle saved a few millimeters in the engine’s overall length, while another 3 centimeters were saved by one of Lambertini’s technical tricks: The crankshaft axis does not go through the point where the axes of the two cylinders intersect. Instead, it runs slightly inboard of said intersection, which not only helps make the engine more compact, but also creates a 90 degree firing sequence and superior balance, Lambertini claims. The compact combustion chamber has an included valve angle of just 21 degrees. Lambertini says Moto Morini will not go racing any time soon. Instead, it will focus on attaining sold performance, superior reliability and serviceability. – Bruno de Prato “

That Lazareth VMax is pretty cool. You're right, think of it as a concept bike that will give birth to some great production ideas.
