My personal opinion is that Bueller's are not cheapskates. They paid big bucks for an American Made Motorcycle and invest thousands more to personalize it and squeeze every bit of performance they can out of it. I just do not see this kind of spending going on with owner/riders of other brands. Is just another reason Buell's and their owners are different in every sense. For what it's worth...YMMV |

All I was trying to say was if you bought the bike and started to complain about the cost of all the other stuff you should probably have done a little more research before making your purchase. I personally think I got a great deal on my bike and aside from the UGLY tire fiasco I went through I have had nothing but great service with all aftermarket distributors. WileyCo, American Sport Bike, DFK, BadWeb classifieds, and Appleton Harley (Now even better, just add Dave). |

I'll admit it. I look at my Buell (besides being an awesome bike) as an affordable Harley. I aspire to a Nighttrain Softtail, but can neither afford it right now, nor do I feel I've outgrown my sportbike years. Dream? Pay off the Buell and eventually have both. |

I am a tight git I hate spending on stuff I can repair, I even take old switches to bits and clean the contacts rather than buy new, or I'll go to a breakers and find bits I can use/modify, but I don't mind spending it when it's worth it. ex. Around 1500 bucks to go & play with Newfie & the gang in August |

I don't mind spending good money for good product (that goes for both the iron and the add-ons), but why do the HD service shops have to charge so much for service? The bikes are not that complicated (especially compared to some of the metrics out there), yet when labor for basic services (like a flat repair, tire change, etc.) are half the price at the Suzuki dealer than the HD dealer, then something's wrong. Don't even mention the cost of the bike, since a Hyabusa GSX-R1300 costs the same as my xb12S... Anyway, I can't believe that the factory training for an HD tech is more extensive than a metric tech. I've had to go back to my HD dealer to have the race pipe replaced because the tech gorilla-gunned the chin fairing bolts in and promptly galled one of them preventing removal, and I'm on my way back to pick up the nylon washers that protect the bodywork from the last time he had the airbox off (oh yeah, the rest of the parts he neglected to return to me when the race kit was installed also)... I guess that's what the extra money is for, huh? [flamesuit on] |

They paid big bucks for an American Made Motorcycle and invest thousands more to personalize it and squeeze every bit of performance they can out of it. Thanks Outrider - I've done exactly that. My S1W represents several holidays I never had. Perhaps even a nicer home, or maybe a gazebo in the garden could have been had with the money I've put into this Buell of mine. For sure I'd be better dressed if I didn't own a Buell. The main thing is, no one in my family has suffered because of my Buell ownership, though my wife might not agree <grin>. End of the day it's an over indulgence I allow myself, and yes I have spent a fortune, and no I'm not a rich man. Would I do it again? Ah, the answer is, one can never stop, but I'd like to do it with someone else's money LOL. As for complaining, I'd complain about the price of a service on a Ferrari if I owned one today. No car cost that much to service no matter how freaking exotic it might be. Ferrari or otherwise, that's just a pizz take. Buell \ HD dealers follow that same 'rule'. You pay mostly to wipe your feet on the corporate door mat the minute you enter the premises, which has little to do with the person wielding the wrenches on your expensive over indulgence parked in the service bay. Yes I complain! Better still, do it yourself. I do, and I still complain Rocket

As long as you don't argue with yourself about the labor rate you're charging, Rocket, it doesn't matter. |

Q. How can you tell when there's a Buell owner on the plane? A. When the pilot turns off the engines you can still hear the whine!

Right now I'd sell my truck ($18,000), my camera equipment ($4,000), my computers ($6,000), and just about everything else I own if I could get a Buell right now. I think that adds up to about $28,000. Is that cheap? I guess maybe once I actually buy the bike, I will become cheap. I hope not though... Then again, I'm in a different situation. Not a lot of dealers around here. And my commander won't let me ride a bike on the basecamp anyway. Pisser... |

I'll hang in there; it's only another three to six months. I've got the money, I just don't have the means to spend it. Argh! I guess I'm the opposite of cheap or something... |

It was a choice between a Buell and this killer dinnette set. Buell, dineete set. Buell, dinette set? Did I say the dinette set is really killer!! |

I consider myself a cheapskate. But I own a Buell S2 and a V-Rod. How can that be? Well, my philosophy is I am generally a cheapskate, but I am willing to spend the money on what I feel will do me the most good. I don't need the latest fashionable clothes, my trusty old jeans, T-shirts and biker boots do me just fine. Case in point. I had an old Police Interceptor Crown Vic and that d@mn thing cost me nearly $100 for a set of wires. I couldn't believe they were so much. However, I needed some plug wires for my Buell, and at the time I got the Nology wires, which were also right around $100. But for me, the expenditure on my Buell was worth it (even though the cost per wire went up to 400% of the Crown Vic's). 1313

I'm with reepicheep. I bought my bike before I had a house, kids, wife, excetra. As a sole bread winner every penny counts. $425 for an exhaust from American Sport Bike (thanks agian its awesome!)was a huge purchase for me. Part for buells really aren't that expensive. I've broken the front right blinker so many times now I've lost count and that is only $10 a peice(depending on dealer). On my suzuki similar parts cost me $80+. So my buell has been preety cheep to own. It cost less than $200 a year to keep on the road. On a side note I went into Trenton world class hd/buell in NJ and I was told they no longer support buell products. Actully the owner said that buell's are losers and he tried to sell me a new sporty? So I guess I'm a loser for owning a BUELL. BUUUT there I go whining again. |

Just shows the suicide mentality of some dealers, he says Buells are losers and alienates a potential customer and anyone else who reads this board with one phrase. I don't get it, is this good business practice? |

I will spread the word to my Harley buddies about Trenton and let them know they are on the bad dealer list. Trenton World-Class H/D are and will be the real losers. Tim edited by smitty on May 10, 2004 |
