So I've been wondering, if someone came up to you on the street, eye'd your ride & said "I seen that thar co-mercial, different in every sense. What ya'll mean by that?" - What would you say? Accent the positive. How would you quantify the experience?  | ||

I'd tell the person that Buells are built for the "real world" you know, planet earth, where we all ride. That it's not about top end or peak HP numbers but the handling,torque,feel and sound. It's about the people,the bike,the road,the curves! Ride to the edge! Dave daves@h-dappleton.com | ||

Well you could make all the points that the adds make that goober couldn't comprehend. Such as mass centralization, the patented components from the brakes to the frame. Point out that Buells aren't concerned about the boring straight stretches of road that seem to be what so many sport bikes have become obssessed with, rather the corners where the real fun is and what "sport bikes" used to be about. Or, you could just whack the throttle and smile  | ||

I just usually get "What the •••• is that yep thats what i'm hearing all the time, and then the fun starts, ( quoting a cbr600 rider ) -O American, must be a harley then, no, it isn't a harley there owned by harley -ok, but what is that old harley engine doing in a sleek race frame, a well, you know that's my speed limiter other wise i'm doing 250 km/h all the time -guy laughing, but why did you buy a racebike who can't do 250 i started the bike, and that's why gr,b | ||

yep, it is funny..we were at drons the other day, having lunch with woz...he was running the rental office and there was the drons buell in there with all of the rental harleys..... some guy comes in looking at the bikes to rent , sees the buell and says what is that....a BUUUU-lllllll.? ahahahhahahha....rex | ||

The Big Kid was wearing his "BUELL AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE" shirt the other day, and some Goober comes up and asks him what that was? Of Course the Big Kid responds in the typical Big Kid style: Well....its an Ice cream truck. Then he points at the "MOTORCYCLE" on the shirt, and Goober says: OH...Its a motorcycle!! | ||

I just start it up and blip the throttle. Though I must admit it was interesting tonight when mom looked at me all terror stricken and rolled JR's window up when he pointed at me and my bike and made the thumbs up sign to me....Damn I wanted to do a burnout so BAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDddddd then take off in a wheelie just for the kid...oh and to scare mom more  | ||

true story: i rode up to Kernville this afternoon to knock off a couple of chores. after doing a little shopping i walked out the store and there's a mom and her young son eyeballing the Thong. the boy's about eight or nine, with big ol' saucer eyes as i walk up. "Mister, I really like your bike!" "Thank you," i said quite sincerely. "Are you gonna ride a motorcycle some day?" his Mom answered. "He already rides!" she stated proudly. "He's got a 50-cc dirtbike!!" the boy was beaming. "That's very cool," i said to the boy. "I started riding when i was about your age, on an 80 as I remember, and I STILL love to ride." the boy made a lasting impression on me as he said, "I really like the belt, and the seat." pretty astute, i thought, to key on the drive belt. right on. the seat? yeah, well, it ain't called the Thong for nothin'. his Mom stepped in again. "That's a different kind of crotch rocket!" it was easy to tell she was into bikes, too. i laughed. "It's an AMERICAN crotch rocket!" the boy spoke again. "I REALLY like your bike." i said, "Well, you're gonna like it even better when I fire it up." his eyes got even bigger. he was sitting on the curb, all of about four feet from the Vance & Hines, when the Thong popped off. i blipped the throttle a couple of times. i couldn't hear what he said, but his eyes and smile told the story. i told them both to take care, clicked the bike into gear, and idled away. no wheelies, no stoppies, no burners. not now. the kid will learn these on his own in due time. i wanted the impression he took away from this enchanting chance visit to be one of respect and admiration. not for me, but for the bike he'd just had a close encounter with. if for no other reason, i ride a Buell for unexpected gifts like this. i've ridden for over 30 years, but no motorcycle has moved me like a Buell. yep, that's what I'D say. ride to lean, FB | ||

For me, it's equal parts pride and constipation. The XB's put me over the edge, but it took us soooo long to get here. But, there you go, a classic case of "worth the wait". | ||

I rode up to Duluth MN a few years ago to visit the Aerostich store/factory and meet up with BluzM2. Meandering around town trying to find the Harley/Buell store we saw several late-teen/early-20's folks in a center turn lane working on their car, so we rode up to them to ask if they knew where the dealership was. I was on my black M2 with the WileyCo, Brad was on his blue M2 (can't remember if he was running his modified exhaust yet). They knew about where the shop was and got us going in the right direction. It was also obvious that they liked our bikes from the grins on their faces. Sometimes a reaction or facial expression says so much more than any words can tell. The Duluth store at the time didn't have much to offer in the way of Buells, but I'm fairly certain that Brad and I left a couple of new Buell enthusiasts behind. About the "different in every sense", just say form follows function, it's a road bike made to be rode, the style comes naturally. It still doesn't sit well when someone refers to it as a crotch rocket or a sport bike. To me it is neither. It is a road bike, simple and to the point. | ||

JH -- great story . . .. you helped solidify the bike fever in the young man, and for that, you get many karmic points, I'm thinkin . . . .. I was about that young man's age when an old guy (mebbe 22)on a Bonnieville spoke to me in a similar manner . . . .. I think we all owe the sport a tale or two like Jerry's -- motorcycles, and, more importantly, motorcyclists have given me such great joy since mumblemumble it would be a fool and a poltroon were I not to attempt to pay back some of the grins I've enjoyed personnaly, the best answer to a grown up I've ever heard is Gregg'•••••••••••••'s a secret developmental Harley Race Bike . . .oooooooo btw, the red dots appearing above seem to be some sort of bug in the bad-word-deletion feature . . . | ||

I was out last night on the S3T (I had to leave Marilyn at home. I was running some errands and the bags come in handy). The first stoplight yielded a "sweet bike" from a couple of hot young latino chicas. The next light some guy in the passenger seat of his friends truck just about fell out the window looking at my bike. At my stop by the auto parts shop, half the shop came out to look at my bike. Like Aydenxb9 said above, the best way I describe a Buell is to give her a blip of the throttle  | ||

This morning I was on my way to work stopped at a red light beside GA Tech. An older gentleman wearing a three piece suit and a pair of Converse All-Stars stops in the crosswalk looks up and says "I used to have one of those Cafe' Racers back in the '60s" smiled and walked on. | ||

Experienced riders have typically done the fast in a straight line thing and have dropped the dream of being something they're not... ie: Valentino Rossi. Buell builds bikes for these people. A Buell is the motorcycle for which the designers thought to re-approach the entire bike and not just the in-line four /dual over-head cam. An approach which results in enhanced rider confidence, getting the rider into the fun faster. That's is how it became "different in every sense". shortest wheel base, lightest unsprung weight, tightest rake, lowest center of gravity and so on. These things are all products of this re-approach. | ||

I work in an office full of Japanese expatriates. The first day I rode my Buell to work, a large group came out to look it over. Considering the history and technology of Japanese bikes, I was expecting thorough criticism and grilling. What I got instead was admiration & envy.  "Matt-san, VERY COOL desuyo!" "Sounds WILD!" "This is a very AMERICAN motorcycle!" The Buell is a wonderful ambassador to the biking world, sending the message that we follow the beat of our OWN loud drum. | ||

I was sitting at a light when (from all appearances) a typical HD guy pulls up in his truck beside me. He looks the bike over and finally the sneer comes off his face and is replaced by a smile. He yells "Sweet ride, Is she fast?" I just said "She'll get out of her own way". He gives me a thumbs up as the light turns green and I pull away barely on one wheel. BTW: My 5 y/o dances to the Buell music when I fire Em up. | ||

Not an original sentiment but a Buell is different in every sense like an original Cobra is...stuff a big ol' thumpin' torque generating 'murican motor in a little bitty chassis that handles pretty good. I just say I waited 20 years for someone, anyone, to sell me a USA street-legal 250cc Grand Prix dimensions racing bike that would be reliable to ride around on the street, and Buell/HD finally did with the XB series. | ||
