The XB9S is definitely the last bike I'll ever own. Not only is it great, but I don't think I can go through the TTL process EVER AGAIN! It's been two months since I got the bike, and I still am not sure if my title application is approved. Here's the breakdown of my trips to the county tax collector:

Trip #1: All paperwork inspected and approved, wait 1 week for lien release. "You just have one more thing and then you are done."

Trip #2: Turn in all paperwork with lien release. Everything is approved.

Trip #3: Two hours later. Find out I need a power of attorney because the title has two owners listed. "You just have one more thing and then you are done."

Trip #4: Pick up title because they told me to have first seller get power of attorney, not myself. Mail to first seller to sign. "You just have one more thing and then you are done."

Trip #5: They cannot find my paperwork, it has been so long since I turned it in. Seller has signed the second owner's name, followed by his name, exactly as the tax office instructed. They now inform me he has signed the wrong way. After making a scene in the lobby, they say that they will just put it through anyway. They will call me when I'm sure it will be rejected for some other insane reason.

Anyone else have this problem with government offices? I'm going to take my paperwork and RUN to the nearest small town tax office next time, maybe I'll luck out and the person who approves titles will actually be the same person who helps me at the tax office.

That's why I like where I live. The tax collector is also the Tag agency. But that is only if you know where to go : )

I'm pretty happy with ADOT (AZ). Usually a one stop shop here in Yuma anyway...

Now my boat on the other hand was a fiasco like yours. Took me three trips (way out of my way) to get my tags. Turns out, boat title and registration here in Az is handled by fish and game. Seemed screwy to me??

No problems in Kentucky. I transferred three bikes, two cars and a pickup from California with nothing more complicated than having the VIN's verified by the sheriff, and he came out to my garage to do that!

California is out of control.

I bought an '84 Sportster from my friend in California and all I had no problems here in Massachusetts. Every time I think that the Bureaucracy here is out of control, (and it is) someone from another state shows me how bad it can get.

Jared,
I ran into that trying to get an ATV permit for a used dirtbike for my son. I didn't think about geting a bill of sale when I bought it and they wouldn't let me get the permit without it. That I understood and I should have know better.
But then when I went back after tracking the guys down for several days, they said I needed a note from him that stated he never rode it on public ground.
I blew up and chewed them out and told them that is why people hate the government so much. One of the women in the office goes to our church so when I came back in she jumped right up and just finished it for me.
I have always said that if private business was run like the government they wouldn't be in business very long.
I realize that I'm painting with a broad brush but with goverment we have no choice.

Government helps supply jobs to those who would be fired in the private sector...

You guys have no idea how bad it can get. Here in New Jersey thet state has decided to change all af our licences to "digital." But to get that new fancy, dancy licence I first have to prove who I am! Hey, I've only had my licence since 1975, it's never been revoked nor have I ever let it lapse. So the state and I have been "best buddies" since the beginning.

One would figure that the current licence I have would be proof. But not here. So now I have to go get something that proves who I am. A Passport should be good right? I mean, every country in the world excepts that as identification, right? Well, not here in Jersey. I need to find a second piece of evidence.

A Birth Certificate is good. Ahhh, but I don't have it. So I make a copy of my non-photo licence, send it with $3 to the city where I was born and get a notorized copy of my Birth Certificate. NOW I have enough evidence to get my new licence.

Do you see the stupidity of this. Hell I can make a birth certificate on my computer, have my father notorize it and wa-la. I live in the most F'd up state in the Union. They won't except my Passport as ID, but they'd except a piece of paper with some stupid stamp on it and no photo.

True MORONS! This is our government people. It's time to register and vote (if you already haven't) and kick these stupid, illiterate, power hungry people out of office.

And we wonder why it is so hard to simply survive.

Andys,

i feel sorry for you, I moved here from the UK, I have a green card and my British passport was good enough for the FBI and the INS, but obviously even though you are a US citizen , a passport is not good enough for the Garden State..old joke here ...but where are the gardens.
