Okay,
I've just discovered buying a HD extended warranty is like taking money to Vegas. In a word, gone. Except in vegas you get free drinks from women in silly outfits.

My 2001 X1 shock is gushing oil , its still under extended warranty but apparently that doesn't cover shocks, wheels, spokes or any running gear.

Man do I feel like a sucker..

Anybody out there verify this?

I can verify the extended warranty is like a trip to Vegas, doubly so if you were also given a money back guarantee.

Mike,
I'm using the warranty card to protect the rim when I change tires. At least I'll get some use out of it. I only have till Wednesday before it expires anyways.

Well like all things Buell, it best done yourself

Whats are people using out there for replacements X1 shocks? The only one I recall is the Penske and thats pretty pricey.

Is it possible to have the stock Showa rebuilt? Any ideas where, how long and how much?

Thanks
Matt

The stock shocks can be rebuilt by Race Tech I know and I have heard a place called Traction Dynamics can do them as well.

Last I checked the extended warranties didn't cover most of what you might need (incl any bodywork or touring gear for the S3s).
Back in 99 I made a list of things I was concerned about breaking in the first 5 years - and all of them were on the "does not cover" list.

Thanks Dave,

next question anyone have a used 2001 shock for sale? I'll need a spare while I have mine rebuilt.

Thanks
Matt

Matt,
Rummage around the classifieds on the site here as several people have dismantled their bikes for parts. Shocks show up regularly on ebay as well, but you probably know all this already so I'm probably just exercising my fingers.
If my shock ever goes I'll probably check into that shock conversion kit from Europe that changes the shock/spring format from pull to push mode. I'd really like to see someone integrate an XB rear suspension setup to a 'tuber. I know they mount different and all, but still I'd like to see it.

Maxton have built a shock custom made for Buell. Each one is purpose built to suit rider[weight]use of bike, normal road, fast road use,or track.Seems like the best option, works on extension. The Hyper-pro you mentioned, that converts to compression has so many linkages it may not be the best idea. They are all expensive so I would advise extensive research before you spend.

Mikej,
Thanks, I'll think I stick with the stock setup, it works fine when the shock has oil in it

Cu_chulan, the Maxton shock looks cool, do you know anyone who's using it? Do you know if US buyers pay VAT?

Thanks
matt

Matt

No VAT for US buyers . . . . .I've heard great things about their products, but, alas, have no direct experience

It has proved impossible to persuade Maxton to build any more tuber shox. It appears they've lost interest. Too busy doing other things I guess.

Well I guess I go with Penske for a new one then.

My wallet is screaming!
