Howdy,
Well, since my desert vacation's been extended, I won't be getting the great deal that I was getting on two 2003's, a Blast and a Firebolt. So I need to start planning to look for a bike around August or September, possibly even October or November, (God I hope not - that would be 18 months... Ack.)

When do the 2005's come out? If I remember correctly, the 2004's came out in October or so of 2003. I know that cars come out about three or four months before their actual model years. Is it the same for motorcycles?

Also, does anyone know of any big things expected for the 2005 models? Or any incentive programs expected to come out in the fall?

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate any light you can shed on this subject.

Sean

PS - I'm trying to get one of the local Iraqi contractors to buy me a motorcycle outside the basecamp for a few hundred bucks. I figure if I can ride around here for a little bit, then I will be better when I get home. And hey, if I can get it shipped home, then that's an added bonus... All I have to do is convince the commander that it's a good idea.

News should be released around June or more likely around July. Models should start hitting being loaded into the trucks around late August to late September. That is if history is any true indicator. New updates and changes will either be relatively minor, or very major, doesn't seem to be much else these days in this age of all or nothing.

I'd be very carefull with buying a local ride off-site for a variety of reasons. Work through legit. channels for everyone's well being.

Be safe.

the street-level noise around 2005 models is nearly non-existant -- interesting, if for no other reason the level was a bit higher this time last year, if memory serves . . . . ..

We won't know until July.

Per Erik's talk at Surdykes the other day:
Very little changes. Some new colors, etc.

I still think they'll make a V-Rod XB.

Sorry... Just kidding.

was over at modesto today picking up my M-2....the XB's for some reason looked a little cheap sitting next to all of those ducatis....the wheels looked good, but the body work and the logos on the tank looked a little cheap. Ducatis looked really good.

By the way....rode the M-2 tonight after some mods and fine tuning done...why would I want another bike...this one runs very good, torque is there, sound is there, power is there, ride is there....There would have to be an awful good new bike to get me to buy another one better than my M-2...rex

They will have to pry my M2 from my cold dead hands. I have yet to see a bike I would trade it for. On the other hand I can think of many pairs of bikes I would trade it for. For instance,

Yamaha R1 and a Screaming Eagle Edition Road King

Somehow I feel like my M2 fits somewhere right inbetween those two...

Just for fun, I did a patent search today. There was a new rotor mounting patent filed recently (or maybe it was an update to an old one).

Does the current ZTL rotor mounting system include springs as standoffs? If this is new, I will post a picture of the drawing. Cool setup.

Man. This Erik guy has a lot of patents, going all the way back to 77.

Reep -- I don't think there are springs involved in the ZTL brakes . . . .. . that's an interesting twist

Bomber,
Next time you're up in this neck of the woods check out all the HalfPriceBookstores. They usually have a fair selection of Engineering books if you know to look in more than one section of the store. That one could be in Transportation, Architecture, Engineering, Art and Design, or History, among others.

I was just over at the local one at lunch, could have had a quick look for you. I'll add it to my pocket paper and keep a casual eye open for a copy.

I found two different books on Amazon and one on Barnes&Noble:

I'll be in Detroit for part of a day next week and may run up to a used bookstore in Farmington Hills that I know of. Sounds interesting.

I have to say I'm impressed. What started out as a question about the 2005 model year bikes has turned into a discussion about M2's, then the ZTL brakes, and finally a book about engineering drawings that I think I'd like to buy, (or maybe ask for as a birthday gift). It's interesting the twists and turns that this board take. Thanks for enlightening me in more ways than I imagined. Good stuff here...
