The members of the Colorado Thunder Club would like to invite you to the 2nd Annual
BISHOP'S CASTLE RIDE • APRIL 25TH

Our next planned group ride leaves the Red Rock's Grill in Morrison, Colorado at 10am sharp come early if you wanna eat for Bishop's Castle near Beulah, Colorado. The map for our first leg of the trip:

Bishop's Castle Starting Leg

We expect to stop in Canyon City for lunch. Gas stops will be determined by the bike with the shortest range and whoever has to pee first. First leg is about 200 miles.

Quick Return

The quick return is 130 miles of Interstate Slab. If time and mob mentality allows, we'll run the reverse of the first leg, or Hwy 115 to Hwy 67 to Hwy 285. Minimum round trip 330 miles, maximum 400 miles.

All bikes are welcome, club members and non-members alike. Hope to see ya'll there! : )

Didn't last years route take a more indirect but much more fun route?

I believe the starting leg is identical to last year. I could be wrong.

I thought that the route turned south off of HWY 285 at Pine Junction through Deckers towards Woodland Park. West from there to Florissant then south from there via back roads. Picking up HWY 9 about six or seven miles north of HWY 50. Then on in to Canon City.

Kim: I had the map drawn the way you described last night! I checked and double checked before I posted. I NEVER routed through Fairplay. Damn Harley Ride Planner. Let me see if I can update it. Damn thing is tough enough to set up, you think it would hold my waypoints.

Thanks for pointing that out Kim. Check back later, but you know the route anyway! : )

SON OF A B@#$%!

The ride planner just changed the route on me again. Time to go old school.

Thats what you get for using a Harley Ride Planner. You know going around corners is not in their programming.: )

I just talked to Bob Rowledge. He wanted me to mention that they will be leaving Morrison at 9am not 10am. So set the alarm an hour earlier.

Can an updated ride route be posted? I'm not far from Pine Junction and could come along if I get permission : ).

Would be an outstanding ride through Deckers, Fluorissant, Guffey, Canon City, etc.

Sfarson:
In lieu of getting the online map thing to work...

Hwy 74 North out of Morrison to Hwy 285.
Hwy 285 South (west) to Hwy 126 / 67 Pine Junction.
126 / 67 South to Woodland Park.
Hwy 24 West out of Woodland Park to unnamed "back road" that connects to Hwy 9.
Hwy 9 south to Hwy 50 East to Canon City.
LUNCH
Hwy 50 East to Hwy 67 South to Hwy 165.
165 to Bishop's Castle

The return route posted is accurate!
I will double check the time, but our rides have always started at 10am.

If you want I can call you when we leave Morrision, so you can time your meet with us at Pine Junction / Pine.

The unnamed "back road" is 1 RD south out of Florrisant to 11 RD. 11 Rd through some very good twisties to Hwy 9. There is one blind(over a rise)decreasing radius right corner that can catch you unaware. Its about seven or eight miles from where 11 Rd comes to a T and goes to the left. Be careful out there.

Thanks Kim. It's unmarked on my map of Colorado. You are also correct

START TIME IS 9AM

You're very well informed for a guy that lives 200 miles from where we meet! : )
Hope to see you and the misses there.

We plan to meet the group along the way. The weather channel is calling for 26 degrees for a low up here on Sunday morning. But as long as we don't get snow saturday night we should be able to make it over the pass. We had new snow this morning.

Thanks Chainsaw, Kim,

I will email you if I can join the ride. The backroads between Fluorissant and Hwy 9 are a great choice for this ride.

Steve, your welcome.

Hope you can make it. Heck I hope the wife and I can make. It's snowing up here right now. Crossing fingers that this will pass before the weekend.

You guys are making me jealous. I lived in Colorado Springs from'73 to '77, and I can still remember those roads. This year, my wife and I are riding to Newfoundland; next year we'll do Colorado. Hope you have a great ride.

Weather is my key hesitation. I'm in Park County and out of the state at the moment on business. Supposed to bring a bike to DV for service early Friday morning and the latest forecast I've seen is calling for snow Thursday evening .

THE RIDE IS ON. LEAVES 9AM SUNDAY : )
Today the sun is out and it's warm. Roads are DRY in Denver as of yesterday afternoon. Me and Scott W. are gonna go scout the route here in about 2 hours. I spoke to a guy in BlackHawk, CO yesterday. He is at 8,500 feet and the roads were just wet. Hell, I could have rode the Buell to work yesterday, but I was scared off by threats of 10" of snow in Denver. The prediction was "highly inaccurate."

We had much less snow to the north and east. If the roads to the south at elevation are crap, we'll plan an alternate, not so snowy ride, tomorrow during breakfast.

Hope to see ya'll there!

Cheryle and I just got back for driving the route from Florissant south to Hwy 9. Road is dry but there is lots of sand in places. Slower corners mainly. As long as everyone keeps this in mind they will be okay.

SCOUTING REPORT:
Hwy 285 is dry, with a few spots of water on the road from melting snow.
Hwy 67 is near perfect. Some sand by Buffalo Creek, some sand on both sides of the hill leading to the fire station.

Some small rocks on the road 15-20 miles north of Woodland Park. We rolled the big ones off the highway, but we need to keep our eyes open.

We had four inchs of snow last night. So the roads are snow and ice covered. On radar it looks like its snowing in Canon City and Bishop's Castle right now. No ride for us today.

POSTPONED!

Snow at elevation and our destination. The weather forecasters around here are really good about predicting snowfall only when it is actually happening! We still had about 12 people show up in the rain for breakfast!

Weather permitting it's on for May 2nd. : )

Is this true or what with snow and weather forecasting. I think they should call it look-out-the-window forecasting since they can't get it right otherwise.

Wish the ride could be on Saturday(s). Have obligations at church on Sundays. Will continue to see if I can join a ride!
