You think Buell will cover this and replace it? I have the extended warranty. The crack is in the rear right side of the tail by where it bolts down to the sub frame. I have never dropped the bike. I noticed it when I was swapping it for the slim version. I decided to go back to the wide tail since it is more comfortable.

regards

Mike

My dealer would not cover my cracked tail section under warranty. You should still ask though. I believe at least one other person on this sight was able to get their cracked tail section replaced.

I picked up a used tail section on ebay for around $100.

Are you interested in selling your slim tail section & seat?

My tail section also cracked on both sides besides where it bolts to the subframe.I repaired it with some body repair stuff, but I was told that the M2 tail sections have a tendency to break in that area, when I bought my bike in 2000.

Mine craked under the seat at the front two strap point are located.

My '98 has cracks in the body under the seat as well. Don't know how long they've been there... someone pointed them out to me a long time ago. At that time, they appeared as "hairline" cracks... and I wasn't so observant. I've never repaired them... it's not to a point where anything is in danger of falling apart. But I should... I'll probably just "weld" the cracks... then lay a couple of layers of fiberglass top and bottom.

sounds like i'm not the only one with a cracked tail... mine has cracked around both rear bolts, but it doesn't seem to affect anything... i haven't even bothered to fix them (they'd probably just crack again anyway)...

When i had my 99M2 my dealer exchanged the cracked tail under the extended warranty. It should be covered, review the extended warranty papers and it will list what is covered and what is not. If you have not dropped your bike, it should be covered as it should not crack.
