Thanks, by the way, any Buellers from the Chicago area? It carries Illinois Buell decals on the tank. They make this project possible along with Revolution Performance.

I will be competing in the AMA Grand National Dirttrack Series. On the half mile and mile tracks, I will run the Buell against Xr750's and the TL1000's. I will also be defending the #1 plate in the 883 Sportster Class.

P.S. Crusty.....see ya at Springfield!!! Daytona

saw the bike at Ill HD/Buell a week or so back . . .it's awesome (an overworked word, but fitting in this case) . . . . .the workmanship is clean, everything look professional, fit and finish are great, and the engineering behind the work seems sound . . . .can't wait to see this beast in action

Hey Scott, sorry you weren't able to make it to our BRAG Chapter meeting with Steve and Brian. The members really enjoyed seeing your mount and bench racing with them. Best of luck in the coming season, Ride it like you stole it, Sam

Did someone say Dirttrack Buell ? this is 16 yr old Cory Texter from Lancaster, Pa. His Dad is Randy Texter who owns Lancaster H-D/Buell. They built TWO Blast Flattrackers(one a 500cc the other nearly 600cc) and this was Cory's first race on them at this track- last saturday ! Cory took a 1st and 2nd place on each of the Blast racers. Oh btw- his 14 yr old sister Shayna- took a 1st place on her 100cc Modified dirtbike as well.
Cory Texter takes a win on his Buell
Also, did you know that Buell is actually sponsoring these bikes ?! Thats what I was Told !

And note that it says "Buell" on the Tank: NOT H-D !
Buell- not Harley

I agree on making a bike like this available...with all of the speciality built bikes now a days, and even with Harleys custom build program, you would think that they could start doing some of this with Buells....Take orders for the above dirttrack singles, bumped up in cubic inches , power, equipment, etc...start building as you have the orders...like ducati is doing with their special paul smart bikes, etc...
what do you think...? 250 or 300 run...?

Scott, good luck to you this season.

I don't know if it was mentioned here that the HD team will be replacing their short track Rotax engines with a hopped up Blast motor (calling it an XR550 I think). Wish them well, it would be nice to see an American brand on the short tracks again.

According to the HD factory mechanic Bill Werner those are not Blast engines. They are Harley engines, Buell does not build or design engines, Harley-Davidson does that for them.
That is what he said at Daytona this year.

I wish people would stop posting pics like the flat tracker above, keeps making me want to do things to the M2 along those lines.

DaveFl,
Bill is correct, and I've been saying the same thing for many years whenever anyone complains about "Buell engine failures". The engines are spec'd by Buell, but built/assembled by Harley. The "Design" aspect is debatable, but should not be since they are all one big happy family. From this point I could type another thousand words, but I'll stop here and go back to looking at that pic of the tracker above and thinking about the M2 mods I could make. Makes me much happier to think that way than the other.

Water off a duck's back, let it roll off and "keep on keeping on".

Technically he is correct, casting, machining and assembly of all engines is done at the Wauwatosa facility although some of the castings do have Buell imprinted on them. I stand corrected (although it does look a heck of lot like a Blast engine)

But just where can I buy a Harley single? It's not going to happen. Why will Harley not try and promote the Buell brand?

"Why will Harley not try and promote the Buell brand?"

Ah, the age old question. I wonder how long before it will become rhetorical?
The answer it seems depends on one's personal perspective and experiences. Some say Harley does promote the Buell brand, others say Harley demotes it. Some say it's all the dealership's fault, some say it's Harley's responsibility to regulate dealership representative responsibility, Harley at times reverts to claiming that each dealership is individually/corporately owned and ultimately their decision is up to each of them as to how to behave. Then someone will point out where a dealership has had their "license to sell" pulled, and I wonder if a license to sell is anything like a license to kill (some would say yes, others say I should wait for contact from Detroit or wait for a visit from the primer black van).

The bottom line is that Harley-Davidson Motor Corporation has undergone several Phoenix-like regenerations since 1902 or so, and it is just my personal opinion that we are witnessing another resurgence of sorts. There may not be the total flame-on crash and burn mythic tale of old, but there is a rebirth of sorts happening. Some would say it's akin to trying to crawl back into the womb for a rebirth, and others who have apparently tried say it just isn't possible to do either that or regenerate a company culture that is so lifestylized ingrained.

The bottom line is that bikes are bikes and they should be made to be ridden, or rodden, or rided. The question should not be "what do you ride", but instead should be "do you ride". Doing is many times more important than being. It does not matter who builds the engine, it only matters if it runs once built. It does not matter what color it is, it only matters if it fulfills your own personal needs from it.

At the end of the day if there is a smile on your face, it is there from the ride, not from what you rode.

And with that I am done for the moment.

Could care less that HD makes the Buell engines, the're both American companies and that's good enough for me. Now lets see the XR550 kick butt in the AMA shorttrack events

Just a matter of semantics. Consider HDI and it's two children HD and BMC.

The kids (actually, not the kids but their respective friends) may be fighting but the parent is proud of both and is spending a bunch to see to it the kids get the best opportunity at life that they can get.

Court may correct me on this, but gut instinct tells me that HDI is investing more into promoting BMC in relationship to BMC's bottom line than they are on HD. Just my vulnerable opinion. YMMV
