Yamaha presented some years ago a concept bike based on the Road Star 1600cc big twin. It was called the MT-01. This year at the Paris Tuning Show, Ludovic Lazareth, a young french designer, presented his own view of the MT-01. I personally find it quite beautiful, with the big engine in the middle of a very agressive and sporty look. Although the huge mufflers below the seat would not fit with Erik Buell's concept of mass centering, there's here some food for future Buell projects, don't you think so ?!     Enjoy ! | ||

The designer certainly has some talent. That being said there are a lot of guys out that that can design these things but no-one ever builds them. This bike exposed looks OK. Wheelbase and rear swingarm too long and a messy linkage on the back. The chassis is probably not rigid enough for the torque of a 1600 and with the 3 liters of gas you can fit in the tank (where-ever that is..) no-one will be complaining about the XB's 120 miles between fill-ups. The rear brake assembly and cable routing would need to be reworked as would the rear-sets & shifter linkages. If you look at the tank, the rider will be 100% leaned over with the knees having to fall "under" the intakes on each side - not a cruiser position but 100% sportbike. This in my mind takes away from the beauty of a twin which is a narrow waist for the knees. Nice effort but more a study in design than in practicality (no I don't drive a honda accord!.)  Hey - I just found out that this guys lives 5 minutes from my place so I will go have a look in his shop and see if he has anything Buell related in the works.! | ||

The pipes look real close to where your legs would be. I roast enough body parts on my M2. Also not a big fan of attaching anything to the ends of the handlebars. It just doesn't look right to me. | ||

Yes, probably not a viable bike. But its look is quite appealing. I love to watch such big V-twin surrounded by a minimal frame. Something which made a large part of the original Buell look and that we miss a bit now with the XB series. Some more pictures of the Lazareth MT-01 show bike available here |
