I noticed this morning that the axle adjuster bolt is loose on the left side of my 2001 M2. I can turn it by hand. I checked the wheel alignment by measuring the distance between the flats on both sides and they are the same according to my cheap calipers. So I don't know why the one side is loose. The dealer adjusted the belt tension about 4,000 miles ago. Maybe they didn't tighten one side properly? I don't have a wrench thin enough to tighten it right so I'm planning on just riding it to the dealer this weekend and have them tighten it. My question is, I should be okay riding it right? Doesn't the axle nut hold the axle square, not the adjuster bolt? It probably only has a few hundredths of an inch play anyway. | ||

Not to worry as they can vibrate loose sometimes(imagine that --vibration!!)just ride down to Sears and buy a nice wrench to fit.As long as your axle nut is tight you are good. | ||

One great thing about owning a Buell is owning lots of tools... I carry around a big ass Craftsman toolbox, a 5 drawer guy that is 3' across, with anything I could possibly need to work on it, including ground down allen keys for rockerboxes, the 36mm axle nut socket (special order from Sears) and all of the other stuff I've made to work on the bike. As long as the play in the adjusters isn't terrible, you're ok until you can get them snugged up. I had one that became WAY loose on a long trip, and that was very interesting to deal with. It's tough to fit that tool box and the bike in the back of an S-10. Think inches of clearance. A decent set of metric box end wrenches and both metric and standard allen wrenches should get you through anything you'll need. Alex | ||

ditto . . .the adjusters on my MaDeuece can be nice and snug, and then, hey, presto, 200 miles later, the little dears are doing the St Vitas Dance all over the joint . . .. . . since they don't really locate the rear axle, I snug em up again and forget them for another couple of hundred miles | ||

Maybe it's just me, but I don't carry many tools with me, and I take some fairly long rides. I seldom have to use the tools I do carry. My adjusters don't loosen up, rockerboxes don't leak, rotors don't rattle and bolts don't fall off now that all the upgrades have been installed. Hell, I trust my bike enough that I'd even ride it to Newfoundland without worry. | ||

I noticed that one adjuster was loose because I saw it doing the St Vitas Dance and I don't even know what the St Vitas Dance is!  I carry the Buell toolkit with me on longer rides but I have never had to use it on the road. The only place it has ever been used is in my garage. | ||

They already are. I had enough problems with the S3 to make me install all the upgrades on the M2. Now it runs as good as it looks and feels. |
