Work has been a roller coaster lately... I've had a couple of good months then it turns off like someone flipped a switch.

I was hoping to make Buelltoberfest but I can't justify the income lost and money that would be spent.
Not trying to be a downer because I know alot of people have it worse.... but when is this crap gonna end?

I feel your pain.

Let me know if your restaurant deal brings you close.

We haven't had a very busy summer compared to the past...we are making it..but since our business is largely weather driven...the upcoming fall season is looking scary...the government tax incentives for A/C units helps..but "yankee" weather (nice florida fall/winter always in the 70's) is just around the bend...where is that climate change when you need it??

It's going to be weird not having a job anymore but it is going to be great to be able to spend time with my son.

I'm with you on this one too. My dad and I run our own business, and there's just not much money left. I've been working longer hours and taking about 1/3 my normal salary...gotta love that!

Come on Obama, where is our change???

I just can't get caught up after furloughs and pay cuts. My part time jobs have had hours/participants decrease and I'm looking at $400-$600 less a month.

It's been going on since March 2008. I get caught up and get hammered again. It's frustrating, but I'm employed and coming close to my bills.

I was an independent contractor at Coca-Cola HQ, and Ann was a mortgage guru.
Coke renewed no contracts (Mine lasted for 13 years) and everyone knows what happened to the mortgage industry.
After a few months, Ann found an office manager's position, and I'm helping a landscaping business get started.
The landscaping maintenance's business is mainly keeping up the grounds for foreclosed properties (capitalizing on the failed mortgage industry...lemons to lemonade) .
Everything from falling down $10,000 houses, Million Dollar properties, to construction foreclosures (never been lived in million dollar homes).
While we're working, Ann full time, and myself, little better than part time, we're living off 1/3 of what we were.
Have one in college, and one in high school.
We've learned to live lean, and mean.
We're making it, and hopefully, this time next year, we'll be back to being comfortable.
I have noticed that things seem to be picking up in the Atlanta area.
My job now includes a lot of driving, and I've seen houses being built, and houses be renovated, and within the past month or so, five of our properties have sold (good for the economy, not so good for the bank route).
I just hope that the growth is slow, and steady.
The last thing I need is a big spike, followed by a big drop.

I also have had a tough go of it this year but I finally got things moving again a little just picked up a new account to make up a little ground on the ones that got slow and the ones that got GONE it has been trying times.

On the bright side at least my kids can now think about buying there own house and life being more affordable cause if you live in NJ for awhile there it was looking like they had no shot cause a mortgage would have been 600K and 20K a year in taxes for a nice sized home now things are a little more normal and entry to mid level jobs are starting to open up a little

The great news is that we will all become our grandparents.

My grandmother, right now, has no less than 35 bleach jugs saved in her basement. She grew up in the depression on a farm. Do you know how long it takes to completely use a gallon of bleach?

She's probably been saving them for decades "just in case".

Point being that our grandparent's generation became one of the greatest in US history. Sometimes adversity breeds those best equipped to survive moving forward.

I HATE the financial situation I am currently in, but I am making plans the next upswing to change my situation permanently. I think we will all become more independent as a result.

Maybe this is what this nation needs.

May we all become Hmong.

At this point in time I believe that the huge majority of americans have changed buying habits permanently. The number of people around here buying the "latest" electronic product or fashion has dropped to very close to zero. The great american consumer which drove the worlds economy is now dead.

With that said, I do not see how the worlds economy gets out of this recession. Everyone is counting on "exports" to pull them up and out. When this fails to materialize in 2010, the shit will really hit the fan. I haven't heard any economist use the term "globalization" in over six months. We should be well on our way to self sufficiency in another few months and local economies will restart. Export economies and sale of cheap foreign goods will really suffer.

Buy local or not at all and we can get thru this.

I sure as hell don't want to become my grandparents...
they are all in the ground but one and he lives in a "home" and thinks he's on vacation....

On second thought... that might not be that bad.... LOL

all B/S aside... I think my Grandpa still has half of the first nickel he ever made.

"when is this crap gonna end?"

I'm starting to think that it won't be anytime soon.

We have made pretty much made every cut back we could find and sacrificed a lot of stuff this year plus we have sold off a few things.

I'm starting to wonder if we are going to make it another year. Like Wolfridgerider said, it's like someone flipping a switch out there, just when it looks like everything is going to be fine, someone turns it off and well you know the rest.

I'm really sorry to hear about everyone's financial difficulties. I hope it gets better soon. I have been having troubles at work for the last few weeks to the point that I am concerned about my job as well. My problems are not economy related, however. It has gotten me so down that I haven't felt like participating in discussions here or much anywhere else for that matter. I am just trying to take things a day at a time now. If this had not happened, I'd probably be riding a new Buell. I have been setting money aside for about seven months, but now I am afraid to spend it on a non-essential purchase. Enough whining from me. Best of luck to you all.

The economies which will emerge first will be those least encumbered with debt.

Unfortunately, that ain't us.

Things are slow with my work right now but its always been up and down. Ohio has an 11.2% unemployment rate right now so Iam thankful to have a job.

I work in manufacturing. Maybe I should be looking into a "green job" field. That is going to be the next big push as a way to boost the economy and job creation.

Was laid off after 9 years with Sprint March 31st. Severance runs out 9/11, 7 weeks left on my first 26 weeks of unemployment, then have 20 and 13 weeks on the first and second extensions respectively.

Harley and Buell went back to the bank. Moving back to Pennsylvania from California in a week.

Have family to help back there. My brother in law already bought us a house for 20 grand so we have somewhere to live.

I am sure there are others worse off that are homeless so I feel fortunate I have my health, wife and support of my family.
