I found out today that I might be able to purchase a Sig .45 pistol, this one I think http://www.remtek.com/arms/sig/model/220/220.htm for somewhere in the neighborhood of $375. It's a police issue if that makes any difference but I have never fired a Sig but have heard that they are a good gun. Has/does anyone here own one, what are the likes or dislikes and is this a fair price? Don't really know why I'm asking you guys and gals for advice, seems like every time I do for bike parts it costs me money.  Anywho, let me know what you know about 'em. Thanks. | ||

See how it feels in your hand, and see if you can fire it a few times around 30 feet from a target. Sigs are good weapons, but the most important thing is how it fits you. | ||

At that price Id say buy it so long as the condition is good. Even if it doesnt fit like a glove. Sigs are at the top of the list as gun manufacturer. It would be a good investment. | ||

Great quality guns. If a cop owned it, he probably ran many thousands of free practice rounds through it. Check out the condition carefully. | ||

It is a full size service pistol, so if concealed carry is preferred it may be hard to hide on a smaller framed individual. Quality, reliability and accuracy are all top notch with Sig Sauer Firearms | ||

If it can be arranged, have it inspected by a reputable gunsmith. If no problems are found, $375 sounds good. Fit and function..... important if you are entrusting your life to it. A fine weapon.... | ||

I own a SIG P220, 45 ACP. FOR ME, it's an ideal pistol, for practical purpose. I target shoot with it frequently, just to stay in practice. Mine was a police weapon a well. As long as it was properly maintained, you should have no problems. The price is GREAT!!! Good find! I would buy it! "To hell and back reliability", and they are not kidding. | ||

Don't know much about the SIG, but .45 ACP is my favorite caliber. Like a VTwin versus an inline four, in theory the .45 acp is worse then smaller but higher velocity rounds, but somehow works better in practice. It's nice to reload as well. And the geometry of the rounds just looks cool (IMHO). | ||

It's a police issue if that makes any difference I wonder if the Police Issue gun is a Double Action Only (DAO)? IIRC some departments have that requirement for duty weapons. | ||

O.K. seems that if the officers don't buy them back for themselves then they will be sold. I don't know if it's first come first serve or a lottery type deal or sealed bids maybe but he's already said they'd be $375 so I doubt it's sealed bids. I asked him if they were worn out and he said they're only used once a year to qualify. I live in a town of 6000 so there's not much need for them to even draw their guns much less use them. They did have to pepper spray a panty bandit last week though, funny story. I know several of the officers, I'll ask them if they'd buy their own weapons and that should give me some idea. The wife is NONE too happy about it but that's a long story, which she is well entitled to. Anyway that's what I know thus far. I'll find out more tomorrow on how they are sold. | ||

When I bought my XD 45 I new I would need some range time to get used to the change from the 9mm. So I took a 4 day handgun course at Frontsite weapons school here in Pahrump. Best money I've ever spent, and I love my XD! | ||

Well, I should know within two weeks max if there are any left overs. If there are it's pretty much a done deal. There's an indoor range about 30 mins from me or my in-laws farm about 10 mins from me where I can go and check it out. If something happens and I just can't live with it I can always hock it at our local festival where thousands come to buy and trade their guns openly on the street in October. | ||

My body had a XD .40S&W. A nice piece but it didn't like the way it fit my hand or the beavertail safety on it. Like someone said it's all about how it fits your hand. SigSauer's are great guns, and that is a killer price on it, you should like it. | ||

Sig makes a damn good gun. But like a few above said, if you're buying for self defense/carry fit is very important. Especially if you father cursed you with big hands and stubby fingers (thanks dad).. But I put 200 rounds through my friends sig last month and it was very nice. as far as prcie you can always check gunbroker.com and see what they go for. | ||

The one in your link shows a side button magazine release. I've used one with the Euro style spring clip release on the bottom of the magazine butt section. No complaints whatsoever about the pistol. If you like torque then you'll like the Sig-Sauer. And like Clint Eastwood said in the Enforcer that I caught a portion of last night "I hit what I am at with it", or words to that effect. |
