I've had EK, and I had a HORRIBLE -6.00 myopia in both eyes correction and now I have 20/15. I had mine done at FT Bragg, NC and it is by far the best thing that the Army has ever done for me. I just cannot see how this little device could ever replicate the same results. It is funny though.

I just finished reading the "how it works" section. I've actually had lasik, and that's NOT how it works. It mentions cutting the "flap" with a laser. Not likely. They used a small rotary blade on me, with my head strapped tight to a table. NOT ONLY THAT, the site doesn't offer a method of peeling the flap back, which is necessary to access the lens. And the laser apparatus used by the pros is about 4 times the size of that contraption. Chances of getting a small home unit for cheap that does the same job? Again, not likely.

So, does anyone else think it looks like a hand mixer with he beaters removed?

EDIT: Holy crap, they have a merchandise page!

"It mentions cutting the "flap" with a laser. Not likely"

Modern lasik equipment do use lasers to cut the flap. I have had it done.

It depends on what sort of surgery you are going to have. There is a difference in the way PRK, and EK and LASIK are done. The outer layer of tissue is called the Epithelium layer, it is the tear film that covers the cornea.

LASIK they actually take a scalpel and cut.

PRK they use an $800 toothbrush and scrape it off entirely. *It regrows*

EK they use a microkeratome and a mixture of alcohol *If I remember right* to loosen the layer and peel it back like a flap.

This advertised bull sh!t has to be some sort of a joke. There is no way in the world you could do this at home and not destroy your vision... It's funny, but seriously do not try this at home.

I had EK because they had to remove so much tissue that had they removed all the tear film it would not have been likely to regrow correctly. And for a government operation they did a wonderful job!

The facility that performed my surgery at the time in 2003 had one of the best setups on the planet, we were told that the laser used was the largest diameter cut that was availabe...the reason being is because night vision is so critical to preserve and the best way to do that and prevent halos and night time flares was to get the entire surface of the cornea. Of course we could have been filled with a bunch of BS, but the results coming out of the clinic were simply amazing.

***The procedures may have changed since 2003 but I did a lot of studying on it before having the surgery. Many times the procedure can be redone later in life if the vision gets worse over time, usually the most complications involved are from the patient not following the directions of the doctor to the letter, not taking the steroid eye drops, or poor hygiene.

"LASIK they actually take a scalpel and cut."

Maybe some still do. Mine were cut with a laser, and this was five years ago.

Hoot it could very well be different in some places, at Laser Eye Surgery Clinic on FT Bragg they were doing LASIK with a freakin blade and ONLY for very specific cases, I got online and read some updates and it seems most places now use a laser to make the ole slice now as well. To me...being no sort of medical professional I think it sounds somewhat safer than a blade if you ask me.

I don't want to misinform anyone, the surgery is amazing, and surely there have been advances in it since I had my eyes zapped in 2003.

The most remarkable thing for me was finally being able to exit a high performance aircraft and see the absolute beauty of the world below me at *to me* never before seen definitions of clarity. Another note, I went from Sharpshooter to Expert on my rifle qual the next quarter. Love it!

Wow! That looks as dodgy as! I was disappointed they didn't offer a free set of steak knives with it...if you ordered in the next 10 minutes, of course.
Your eyesight is something you don't want to mess with yourself.
Of course they have the merchandise...to cover the costs of the pending lawsuits!

Quite an elaborate joke I'd say.

A couple of days ago, I parked my 1125R next to this guy.

Talked with him for a while, his rig got quite a few stares.

I am pretty sure there is no way they would put this in non-specialists hands.

What's next? At home Colonoscopy...amputations...arthroscopic knee surgery?
