I would if advrider would confirm my registration : |

A lot to read, haven't read it all yet, but seems to be a lot of misconceptions, and the old misconception of Buell reliability raises it's head too.

I'm guessing a few of the posters have never ridden a Buell though.

Someone copy and paste this over there...It proves Buell is succeeding.

The majority of the people I run into that spew misinformation about Buell from their mouths have never swung a leg over one. They repeat second, third hand information and generally take it out of context.

year=total Buell units delivered (per H-D)
2005=11,166
2006=12,460
2007=11,513
2008=13,119
2009=6,900 ( 1st & 2nd quarters only, combined with MV AGUSTA

(Being combined with MV could be the start of another thread.)

Looks like they're not doing to bad at all, even considering the economy being in the tank.

it's not worth the effort.
That's why I'm posting this here, and not there.
I've grown tired of it as well.

Why do you guys waste your time over there?

All it is is a place for people to sound off. There is no real information to be found there.

Where is their Knowledge Vault? Where is their Classified? Where is their Picture Thread? Where is their Thumper Forum, XB Forum, Old School Forum, Big Bad and Dirty Forum, Rooster Forum.

The ADV is everything the Badweb is not. My ADVice is leave it alone.

My take on ADVrider is that while it can be entertaining at times, there are more people who want to be internet celebrities, than those who are interested in disseminating knowledge and furthering the sport of motorcycling.

Badweb and a few other sites are hands down the most civilized and respectful. Thanks to the members, owners and moderators. Even my beloved Concours.org is going down hill.

So I guess what I am trying to say is F!@# Advrider.

I just peeked over there and read something by some guy (or gal) named Jody and am now reminded why I spend so little time there.

You read that crap for long it'll take a lifetime to absorb enough facts and true information to displace that rot . . .

I'm not against the place but it's certainly now where I have or would go for any accurate information about Buell.

There ARE some amazing good things being written there. One of the BEST adventure stories I have ever read about riding was written by a combat vet of the RSA Defence Forces - a ride up through Angola. Totally captivating to read about them meeting some of their former adversaries (Spanish mercenary, plus a few "locals") playing in a bar. The story about them comparing their bullet wounds and notes on where they picked them up was a HELLUVA read.

I'd STRONGLY recommend reading the whole thing. It'd be a HELLUVA short movie. Long Way Down or Long Way Around has NOTHING on these guys.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26 9251&highlight=angola

Hell - just scan through and look at the pics the guys had taken!

READ and get some new perspectives on cultural differences from people who were recently at WAR with each other.

You just gotta separate the wheat from the chaff - Like anything else if you MUST get ALL your reading from one source, you're gonna limit yourself too much.

quote:

José impressed me no end. One hell of a nice guy. I owe him. He tells us of his history. He never fled the country in 1976 when Portugal withdrew. Some bad things happened to the whites that stayed then. He stayed and later served in the army and is now a Major.

This gets us to the final one of my concerns. Like I said, the war finally came to an end only 5 years ago. Even though our country withdrew in 1989, we do not know what kind of residual feelings there are towards South Africans. Keep in mind that we invaded them, and spent 13 years operating on their turf, fighting a variety of factions, the most relevant of which the current ruling party. The government.

Four of the five of us had done military service in Angola at some or other stage. Now we are here to holiday. It may be a problem for some.

That does not include José though. He sees us as bikers, friends. He clearly has put some work into putting things in perspective.

I don't really know how to explain all this and I don't even know if it should be dwelt on here. I will say only this.

José was wounded by a battallion I served in.

He showed me the Imperial Hotel in town.

Those holes was made by our planes.

We do a lot of talking that afternoon. We learn a lot of things we didn't know. The main thing I learn is that there are several emotions that have not yet been named. I'll leave it at that.

Like I said, the entire story is well worth your time to read.

Don't let shit piss you off and you'll be the better for it.

(and don't read ADVrider for Buell news)

The nattering threads there, like here are typical internet gossip garbage. Some of the trip reports are fantastic. And I sure do like the look of the place.

It would seem that the biggest asshats on the internet ride adventure bikes though.

ADVrider was my first finding of the Uly. I followed Eor's tale from the first page.

I tripped over BadWeb, and, well, the rest is history.

ADVRider is mainly a GS/KTM board. There's a smattering of VStroms and KLRs, but if it isn't one of the big two, it isn't anywhere.

Most of the good people THERE are great people HERE.

I sincerely hope BW doesn't become like ADVRider.

Yeah, a whole lotta crap - kinda like sportbike boards in that too.

Here's my two thoughts on that thread:

1) Jody doesn't own any of those bikes he lists in his sig. He's a 15-year-old poser clown with a Christmas subscription to Sportbike magazine and a bunch of posters on his wall. If that isn't the case, then his ignorance is truly staggering.

2) Who cares what a bunch of dilwads and interweb bench racers say about Buell? I hate to break out the old Grey-Ponytail Brethren chestnut, but it's true in this case--"if you have to ask, you won't understand." I don't ride with those guys and I don't care to, either. I can't see any of them having the testicular fortitude to walk up to a Buell rider in the flesh and spout that nonsense, so to blazes with them. They're obviously a wee bit insecure about their own bikes and looking any target that will boost their own ego. Don't give them the satisfaction.

The "Beasts" forum at advrider is a good place to hang out. You find a lot of riders genuinely considering a Uly vs. other bikes looking for information.

The ride reports forum has some amazing tales and photography. When you don't have time to go on long trips yourself, it's a reasonable substitute.

The regional forums are good too, practically every state has a (insert state name)-tag-o-rama game going (some have more than one). Ride to a landmark in your state, take a pic of your bike there, post clues, others try to figure it and out score the tag by taking a photo of their bike in the same location. They pick a new tag and post a photo with clues. Repeat. Pretty cool riding game and a good way to make yourself explore places you wouldn't otherwise go.

That wouldn't work too well in Texas.

Looks like you may be right. They've got a Texas tag-o-rama:

but with only 8 posts in the 4 months since they started it.

The pictures mainly.

But I'm also interested in a lot of other bikes other than Buells.

Taaa. I think that is my most successful thread. That and the XB12X picture thread add up to around a million views.
Just over 700,000 you tube vids too.
