My wife's Bombardier Rally 4 wheeler brakes keep locking up after you ride it for about 30 minutes. Then they let go after it sits for awhile. Any idea's why this is happening and whats the fix? | ||

Sounds just like a common problem on the front disk brakes on Japanese motorcycles. Check the relief port in the master cylinder. There's a tiny port at the bottom of the reservoir that lets the fluid bleed back past the piston into the reservoir when you release the brakes. It can get plugged with gunk, in which case the fluid in the system heats up, expands, and causes the brakes to drag. Once they cool off, the brakes release. A good tool for unplugging it is a plain guitar string. It would probably be a good idea to clean out the master cylinder and change the brake fluid while you're at it. | ||

You can try brake cleaner - pull the wheels, pulse the brakes to extend the pistons and give them a squirt to clean them. Push them back and re-mount the wheels. I've had that problem on streetbikes because I just get lazy and haven't cleaned the brake pistons and they just get covered with road gack and brake residue and start hanging up. When the pads drag lightly, they'll heat up and when the fluid gets hot, it expands... pushing even more. |
