Anyone know of a 250 Ninja racing class, where I could any info or where they run? | ||

I've rented one for a couple of rounds from rentmyninja.com Had a ball. WERA has a class, ESS, for them. Some race have full grids in the class, others not so much. It picking up. It's all about cornerspeed and momentum. Lots of info here: http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=198385 | ||

Hmmm... doesn't look like there's much going on with them in the north east. Does anyone know of a cheap class to start racing in at like Monticello, Watkins Glen, Pocono or New England Speedway? | ||

Check the rules in the race organizations in your area. CCS and WERA are nation-wide with regional contests. There ARE other local clubs. I'd bet on the lightweight twins - SV and XB9 (pretty stock) are usually good bets. Lightweight Twins or Vintage lightweights are also kinda cheapies. (EX500, GS500 can be bought CHEAP) Rules vary by organization so see where the class lines are drawn before buying. I'm kinda partial to Twins classes. FAR FEWER Squids trying to race, smaller crowds and more FUN. The I4 600 classes are just bloodbaths until you get out of Novice. | ||

I would think that a 250 class would do really well right now, if not all the time. Bikes are cheap, low hp not too hard tires, parts available all over and cheap. If there was a 250 class that basically allowed no mods but maybe better tires and brakes, I'd be all over it as a entry into racing. | ||

The Ninja 250 classes are largely spec classes with MINIMAL mods allowed. Suspension, brakes, some time brake lines, lighter chain drive, not much more. Some of the faster tracks can be hard on the lower HP bikes because they're spinning so freaking FAST for so long. | ||

Slaughter, I agree. Racing is just tough around here as there are no tracks inside of 2 hours away, and the ones that are reasonably close just seem really hard to figure out what races there and when. I don't even know where to start with local for a more local club. The 250 classes I've found (again, mostly on the west coast, other tracks around the country do them but all a full days drive for me) don't allow any internal engine mods. Brake pads and lines can be changed, and most seem to run slip on exhaust systems as well. They're claiming 30hp at the wheel, which is about what they're rated for at the crank. I'd love to do a lightweight twin - pick up an XB9 and have at it, but they're harder on tires and more expensive to buy in most cases. We'll see. This was just an off-the-cuff idea. Sort of depends on if there's anything around me I could do on a tight budget. | ||

For anyone that might know offhand, the tracks closest to me (ALbany, NY) that I'm aware of are: Limerock - 1:30 hrs Monticello - 2:00 hrs Pocono - 3:30 hrs Loudon, NH - 4:00 hrs Watkins Glen - 4:00 hrs I'm not even sure what any of these places have for regular motorcycle events... | ||

Yeah, it looks like New Hampshire is the best place near me for bikes at the moment. Two choices are USCRA and running the Formula CB class (they run basically stock Honda CB350 and CB360s), or CCS and running in the Lightweight Sportbike class (I'd probably pick up an XB or SV in that case). | ||

Kevin from rentmyninja.com was talking with me friday at Barber and was telling me that CCS doesn't have a specific class that the 250 would be competitive. it would run in ultralightweight with sv's. Wera does have the specicic E Superstock with a bunch of competitors. 13xforums.com has a multipage thread on setup for the 250. have fun. tim | ||

I talked to a guy from USCRA, and he suggested starting out in Formula RD, which runs pretty much stock Yamaha RD400s. Still don't know if the budget can handle it, but looking into it. |
