Like it's been said...most street legal dual sports and supermotards make awesome commuters. They're like the jeeps or mountain bikes of the motorcycling world.
The XL's are just some examples of the type that I admire. XL's in stock form leave little to be desired IMO. |

The XB9sx City X seems like the logical choice. I am really suprised to see it only mentioned once.  It sits high to plot your way through the urban jungle, hauls butt for the stop light to stop light stuff, geared low crawling through the stop/go stuff, and big enough for the long hauls. Throw the Buell tailbag on and you can haul your lunch, coffee mug, couple cans of pop. If you need more wear a back pack. I average 52 MPG on my 32 mile round trip daily commute. Mine is 85% commuter. Besides that they can be bought for a pretty fair price. It can carve a pretty good corner too. Its a nice way to forget about work on the way home. |

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.  I do not get any heat off the cityX although many a time I wish it did. |

A few have mentioned the CityX as a good commuter.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Corporatemonkey's main criticism was the gearing for really crawling traffic, and I would say that's my main complaint about my X1 in *heavy* stop/start traffic, constantly pulling the clutch in because in won't creep that slow. I would've thought the 9's would be better?
Having said that, I've been running all over the city today on the X1, and I had a ball frightening pedestrians and generally disturbing the peace, hehehe  |

I have found that if I let the clutch out in first gear I "might" be able to slow it to 10mph. At this speed I am basically lugging the motor.
If stop and go is your landscape you cannot beat a twist and go scooter. |
