We had a sport bike ride at the dealership. This was the second one that we did. I planned the route and it was almost 100mile round trip ride. We were on are way back when trouble hit. One of the guys on the ride was on his v-rod, he had the detachable saddle bags and one of them fell off when we were going down the road. The guy behind him hit it and his bars went into a tank slap and he lost control and crashed. He ended up with a concusion and a busted ankle. The 1125r he was riding had almost $12,000 in damage. The bike is totaled and he is in a cast. The whole thing just sucked! | ||

That really sucks! The perils of a group ride (or any ride) and liability. We all accept that risk the moment we let the clutch out and pull away though... Hope it doesn't deter future rides! | ||

A club member crashed his 1125r on a recent ride...another member riding of all things, a Honda Dual-Sport...passed the '25 just before a corner and braked hard...the guy on the '25 washed out the front tire with too much brake an lowsided....skint that baby all up...and his backside to boot. Glad I was riding "The Cube"...I was back about 100ft...and got stopped before I ran over anybody. | ||

Nothing wrong with bags on a sportbike ride. I've done plenty through the Italian/Austrian/German/French Alps and Sardinia. It's amazing what you can do with a Uly! | ||

The moral of the story is check your shit before you ride. Every time I ride I allways look my bike over before getting back on. How many times have we seen somone going down the road with there saddle bag lid flapping in the air? Riding is fun but it looses alot of it's enjoyment when you have to scrape a friend off the road!!!! | ||

}Saddle bags - on a sport bike ride? Probably what folks were thinking at the 25th, when my wife and I, on my S2 with saddlebags and tank bag (riding 2-up) started passing folks on the parade lap. My favorite was the outside pass around the VRSCDX on one of the carousels.  | ||

It is the Touratech bashplate, the Buell Race Exhaust was not up to the abuse I was doing  It is NOT for decoration. | ||

Mr_Wizard, Don't be discouraged. Use this as a learning experience. Maybe before the next ride, you could stress to the riders the importance of checking over your bikes more closely. It's usually the small things that come back to bite us. As your two buddies now know. Back in April, I was on a group ride when a water bottle got ejected from a backpack that I had bungeed to my seat. Almost hit the guy behind me. Nobody got hurt, but it could have caused a bad accident. Now I keep my stuff lashed down better. | ||
