It makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint to make all the XB series use the same engines.
The XB9 was a nice smooth engine but I guess almost everyone wanted the long stroke.

Hopefully they will keep the XB9 for a couple more years.
I rode all the Buells at a demo this year and the 9 was by far my favorite.
I hope to buy a new one in a year or two.
(Maybe sooner since my Blast is now a foot rest!)

If they are getting rid of the blast, wouldn't it make sense to keep the 9 as the entry level bike. I know the 12 doesn't have a ton of power but I would hesitate recommending it to a newbie.

Yeah, last year Europe got the solid black (not translucid) XB9SX at a lower price - I thought for sure they would offer that in the states this year.

I doubt the XB12SX comes to US as a roll off the floor bike. There is probably some kind of sweet conversion deal that Buell is taking advantage of in Europe to offer that model. Just like the blacked out CityX, that is Europe only at the sweet price. If you want an US XB12SX, you'll have to pay for the parts.

If you had a 110+HP XB9SX, you'd like it as well : )

Erik's CityX has a Hals 88" thunderbike engine in it. He bought it at Hals, and it was rolled directly from the showroom to the speed shop for the motor work. It was kind of weird at the time seeing the Sold To: Buell tag on it : )

I liked the XB9SX more, simply because it didn't burn my right leg like my XB12 does.
They are great bikes, and with the shorter stroke, allow more air to flow between the frame and heads/exhaust.

Um....externally, the engines are exactly the same dimension. And the part numbers for the heads are exactly the same from 9 to 12. The differences are purely internal.

If they cube it you won't need to replace the belt and bearings every 500 feet.

Bearings every other tire change
Belt every 3rd tire change
neck Bearings, 35K or after a particularily gnarly drop and low side off an off camber wooded trail at excess of 40 mph...
Ankle has finally quit being swollen, I get the bike back Saturday.
