I got an old '82 yamaha maxim for my son to learn on. I got it home and it wont start any more. Don't have a battery tester. Can I just put the battery from the XB in the Yamaha? Just to see if that's the problem?

Sure, 12V is 12V. Just make sure pos to pos, neg to neg.

Thanks, it didn't help...Guess that's what I get for 500 bucks. I pushed it and it starts fine. So I think it must be a saftey "don't start" doohickey. Tried to disable the kickstand safety, that didn't work...If I have to take this bike to a mechanic I'll really be kicking myself...

When I try to start it the oil light comes on but no sounds, nothing.

Many possible issues. Trace electric from start switch until you don't see it anymore. Ignition relay, could be alot of things. Go to Home Depot or sears and spend $12 on a digital electric tester. Good luck

I had a 82 Maxim 550 as my first bike. It was the first bike I rode Deal's Gap on. The bolt handle the Dragon much better. I ended up getting 85000 miles on that bike before a tranny bearing went out. Was cheaper to buy another bike than to fix it.
