The more this guy moves his lips the less I like him, and not only for his Buell comments. If the series blows so much, and he is so great (he is good...) why is he not in WSBK or MotoGP?

"Q: Everybody knows you guys this year are racing machines that are basically run-down-to-the-mall type street bike stuff.

A: That's what I've said in the past...."

I am just curious how you all feel about this...

Quoted from the above link

"It's a real shame that when the World Superbike guys come here, that there's not six or eight factory guys over here, or 10 factory guys over here, on factory Superbikes, that can just slot in as wild cards. That's what the fans would love to see. They would love to see that. Just the local guys get out there. Can you imagine in the past few years when the World Superbike guys would come over, and Ben and I being able to slot in? The fans, they would've come out of their hiding-holes to watch, to see what would happen. And then that gives them something - they're proud to say, then, that their local American Superbike series is kickin' ass, and they're as good as the World guys ..."

Personally I think that Mat has a point with what he says there. I would like to see the ability afforded to WSB riders and AMA riders to slot in as he calls it.

So is he saying that he wants generic spec bike X to be the bike of the series whereby riders from other series can just "slot in"?

Isn't this the NASCAR formula?

I don't think anyone is riding $60,000 worth of bike "down to the mall".

So a company with 200 people can "buy" their way into the series?

If this were true, couldn't Suzuki just quadruple the offer that Buell could make?

They could write the check from the umbrella girl budget.

And have several thousand to spare. : |

What the hell does he mean; "it's a purpose built race bike"?????!!

He needs to study up and learn the ASS-U-ME rule before making such statements.

Wait till he gets a load of the 1125RR!

I lost respect for Mladin due to his mouth a long time ago. He's an arrogant jerk cherry picking in AMA when he doesn't have the guts to go racing in WSBK. "Greatest"? Not even close. I think Ben Spies can easily enough refute that claim. Longest to hang around? Maybe.

I remember him whining when the rc51's were around. How their displacement advantage was unfair yada-yada-yada. Funny, suzuki had the TLR at that time. If the twin was such an edge he should have switched mounts. eBoz sure made Nick work for it with his little kaw.

If possible, can someone *briefly* explain how different an AMA Superbike is to an SBK Superbike?

I'll have to check, but I think Australian, German and British Superbike series still follow closely to SBK regulations so locals can race in their rounds of SBK if they can get a wildcard entry.

AMA bikes right now are essentially the Supersport bikes from last year. The engine internals are hardly changed. They are much closer to a stock bike than the WSBK bikes. DMG should have just adopted WSBK regulations instead of trying to push this crap. Next year will be very interesting to see what happens. I think a few manufacturers will pull out.

This is incredibly inaccurate. Please review the rules. Superbikes in AMA are allowed complete headwork, porting, tuning, and combustion chamber rework. They are allowed to modify cams, valves and use aftermarket forks. There is no comparison to supersport. If your prognostication is as poor as your fact checking, well...

That bitch finished third today and now he is shooting his mouth off about how things suck so bad in the AMA. His mechanical advantage is diminishing with the new rules and he can't stand the heat. Now I see how those stupidbikeplanet idiots form their opinions via interviews like that.

Mladin needs to leave the AMA--retire or go fight it out in WSBK if he's got the guts (which he doesn't.)

Say that Superbike race today was won by like .1 something of a second...and what exactly does Mladin think the fans want to see? True Superbikes that pump out another 20 HP and 10 MPH of top speed where the racing sucks or the current Superbikes with thrilling racing?

Personally, 180 MPH versus 190 MPH down the straights is all the same to me. I don't buy that true race fans are clamoring for WSBK spec bikes. People just want to see good close racing.

What an .

So if this is Mat's wish, why didn't he lobby for Max Nokerchener (sp.) ride at Miller? Maybe Mat's big mouth has turned off more than American race fans?

The above idea is interesting, however I would question the comfort level from the WSBK side, inviting so many unknown AMA guys onto the grid. I am sure many other things that might complicate the picture as well. In theory, it would be good for race fans but you can't do it at the expense (literally the expense) of the everyone but the factory guys in the AMA paddock. Mat would love it because it would be like days of old with his superior machinery. Nope sorry, it's better the way it is now.

These folks ain't rocket scientists, are they !!!No wonder America is in the shape it's in. They don't have the good sense God gave them. I'm the first to admit I'm not an expert on motorcycle racing but I can smell BS when I see it.

"Everybody knows you guys this year are racing machines that are basically run-down-to-the-mall type street bike stuff.

Q: How much did your bike sell for?

A: The one that they sold, I think was 60 grand."

Hey morons, those answers don't jive !!! Since when does a "run-down-to-the-mall" Suzuki GSX-R1000 cost 60k ??

Over on Cycle News Mladin is threatening to quit.

Mladin rides a Suzuki GSX-R1000 in Superbike. You're thinking of the other bitch'r, Jamie Hacking, over in the Sportbike class.

I strongly second the request for Matt or whoever to compare and contrast the WSBK tech rules to the current AMA SBK tech rules. Engine wise, I don't think there is much if any difference.

Ok, I'm curious, so I've downloaded the 2009 tech regulations for AMA and SBK Superbike. It's going to take me a while to summarise, but there are differences between the two on engine regs, but at first glance AMA Superbike allows more mods than Supersport, but not quite as many as SBK.

World Superbike rules look to be fairly liberal. Here is a link if interested

http://www.fim-live.com/fileadmin/alfresco/Codes_e t_reglements/SBK_SS_SST_Eng.pdf

The most interesting aspect of the rule book is the statement at the beginning of the Superbike Technical Specifications section 2.4
" EVERYTHING THAT IS NOT AUTHORISED AND PRESCRIBED IN THIS RULE IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN"

I've created a table showing the main differences I can find between AMA Superbike and SBK Superbike regs. Can anyone tell me how to post a table?
