2006 Uly- Took the handlebar throttle assembly apart. Pulling on the cable that opens the throttle, it sticks without the other cable connected to anything. I'm thinking (and hoping) its just a bad cable. The butterfly in the intake looks o.k. to me. What do you think?

Pinched housing behind the left fork leg? Mine has a similar but less extreme issue because of it. '06 Ulys didn't get the cable guard that later years got. You can retrofit onto your bike, someone around here will have the part number.

In BB&D there is a discussion under the Uly Owner Info thread.

Will the spring on the butterfly close itself without the cables attached. If it does, your cables are bad. Also, when I bought MY bike, I got a bunch of receipts from the previous owner's service appointments. The receipt says the cables were lubed at 5k miles. YEAH RIGHT! I opened up the throttle cables, and the clutch cable. It was very clear that none of them had been lubed before. Now that I have a service manual, I will be doing my 10k service myself (and a little help from some of the fine peeps on this site). I also have to look into my primary, as I can hear it getting a little louder in the last few thousand miles. I'm not sure if i was properly adjusted on the 5k service. When I lubed my cables, effort to pull the clutch, and work the throttle was cut in half.

I just took both cables off of the throttle body, and it still sticks in the wide open position. If I open it part way, it snaps back like it should. I now think I have a bigger issue than bad cables.

Easier than I thought. I sprayed some PB Blaster on the spring like Barker said, and it worked like it should. Then I looked at the cables a little closer and noticed they were both starting to fray, so I replaced them. $100.00 later, works like new.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

My 08 Uly recently had it's throttle plate get pretty sticky in the top third of motion. I think that some of the K&N filter "oil" worked its way into the butterfly plate pivots and gummed them up a bit in the part of the the motion that I don't use so much. A little bit of cleaner, a little bit of lube on the pivots, and it's all good again.
